I've seen a few posts but no real resolution so i'm asking again just in case anyone can advise before the car goes into the garage on Friday

So both rear windows won't stay up anymore, i put them up on auto, they go to the top then drop down about an inch. I can tap them up using the manual (not auto) switch to the top so not too worried about the upcoming rain midweek but does anyone know how to fix this ?

I have looked at the reset procedure on the wiki but this only appears to be for the 8g and doesn't work on the 9g.

Note: this is the 9g 2015 facelift edition - i don't know if this makes any difference but i'd rather point it out

I think it's somehow confusing the window being fully shut with something being trapped, hence the window dropping back down

The fact both windows are the same indicate it's not mechanical

I think my first step would be to connect up to HDS and see what that finds, then go from there.

You're not very close to me but if you wanted I could see if my HDS finds anything

It may be the case you need to do a calibration procedure
I had to do this with 1 off my sons old seat after changing window mech

Thanks for the offer and if I were heading in that direction anytime soon I'd certainly take you up on it

It's baffled me

You need to clear the window memory first and then re-program it.
Follow this procedure.

This is exactly what I tried but I think this is for the 8g rather than 9g as I certainly couldn't get it to work and followed it by the letter. There's even a video online and I done it as he did it in time with him

That process is for 9G
Absolutely correct and i thank you wholeheartedly, you've saved me a 40 minute drive (each way) and the expense.

For anyone who has future issues, as it was the rear windows you have to follow the procedure ever so slightly differently.

Firstly to confirm any confusion as i have seen on other pages, DOWN refers to the first click only of the switch and not the full press (AUTO DOWN )

1. Turn the ignition switch ON (step II)
2. Ensuring the rear window lock is off on the drivers door switch module, move rear window which is affected all all the way down by using the driver’s window DOWN switch. Ensure all other windows are up (where possible)
3. Open the driver’s door
Note Steps 4 to 7 must be done within 5 seconds of each other
4. Turn the ignition switch OFF
5. Push and hold the rear DOWN switch
6. Turn the ignition switch ON
7. Release the driver’s (or the front passenger’s) window DOWN switch
8. Repeat steps 4 to 7 three more times
9. Wait 1 second
10. Rear window should now longer work in any way using the driver module and be set to the bottom. If they do work using the driver module go back to step 1
11. Go to the rear door, open it and use the switch on the door to bring the window back to the top. Hold for one second.
12. Confirm the auto down and up now work, restoring the window to its fully up position
13. Confirm that the drivers module also operates both the auto up and auto down procedure restoring the window to its fully up position.
14. If you have a 2nd rear window which is also affected repeat the process for all other windows

I hope this helps anyone else who might run into this issue. Thanks once again to steve_m and to sasquartch for the kind offer.

Crickey, that's an extreme process.

Glad your sorted now tho and thanks for confirming the convoluted process.
Certainly is. Presumably there is a 2 part module, possibly a hangover and transplant from the 8g models having front electric windows only as all 9g's have front & rear.

Its not actually so bad when you put it into practise and you recognise what needs to be done. I hope i've made it as clear as possible for anyone else that might come across the issue. That said in my old car (focus) it happens if you disconnect the battery but it was so simple - hold down until the window goes all the way down, release, hold down again for 5 seconds - hold up.

I often use my keys to open the windows on approach to put my laptop bag in through window and release any excess heat and often close the windows via the key to also put the mirrors in so i guess somewhere along the line i've obviously confused things and had to go through the process.

Over the moon to get it sorted though and at least it happened in the summer when it wasn't raining.
