Hey everyone,

Having only owned the Type S GT (NHB) a week its time to pull my finger out and give the dirty lady what she's never had….a decent detailing!

Are there any products or brands you swear by? I am tempted to get a machine polisher to make her look like new again…but a little elbow grease may do the job just as well!

Also the console has the usual scratches is there anything i can use to bring these out?

Thanks for reading! :D

have a look at Angelwax products, very good and very reasonably priced  tbh I use so many brands that I dont really "swear by" any one in particular as you'll find the more you get into detailing that you'll like one brand's shampoo, another brand's snow foam, anothers trim restore etc etc but give Angelwax a go! ;) I havent really found any product of theirs I didnt like aside from the Elixer (trim restore) its too runny for my liking!

as for machine polishing, its a lot harder than it looks unfortunately, takes a lot of time and patience to learn, more of an art than a case of firing some polish on a pad and moving it around, however you wont really ever come close to the finish you get from a machine when doing it by hand!

As Dave says, we all have our favourites. I personally don't stick to one brand. Do a quick search as there are a bazillion similar posts like yours. I would stake my life on it that if you asked 10 different people you would get 10 different product lists.

Good luck.

Once i submitted it I did think there would be to many different answers, I think it would have been better to ask "What products would you recommend for detailing"

i.e. Claybar, Wax, Foam pre wash, shampoo etc so i can build up a little collection of detailing goodies.

I think that makes better sense?

I think Shaun put it nicely there. There's so many products to choose from and personally i'm the same as I prefer different brands for different purposes around the car.

Have a browse around on some of the usual websites, The forum of course and there are forums just for detailing which review various products which can be handy. The collection only gets bigger though (Currently have some products on my bedroom floor which I fall over frequently).

On the other hand i've seen what one of Shauns Shaunyshines can do on his thread, pretty impressive! :p

Each detailing stage has products designed for that stage but as the lads have said there are hundreds of brands to choose from. We all have our favourites and we can all recommend them to you but then final choice is yours, decisions decisions:D

Here's a list I did for another user a bit back. As everyone has said above it's a case of personal preference with products. What I did when I was getting my collection together was look through threads seeing what people used then did some reading up on them and also recommendations.

Two buckets - Spend anything from £1-20+ So long as Grit Guards fit they are ok.
Grit Guards/Scratch Shields - A must
Lambswool Mitt/Microfibre Noodle Mitt - Don't hold dirt on the surface like a sponge so reduces the risk of marring, Megs, Dooka Pad, Supermarket MF Mitt
Wheel Brush - Look at the other thread good cheap option there
Shampoo - Many to choose from Autoglym, AD Banana Gloss, Dodo Juice BTBM
Drying Towel - Many to choose from Wooly Mammoth for me
Clay - Bilt Hamber Regular or Soft - just needs water (and suggest a touch of sahmpoo) for lube
De Iron - Iron x, Purple Rain, Iron Out
De Tar - AS Tardis
Citrus Pre Wash - Valet Pro Citrus Pre Wash
Pressure Pump Sprayer - Start from a few quid and go upto hundreds
Glass Cleaner - Autoglym Fast Glass
Glaze - Poorboys Black Hole, Prima Amigo
Hand Polish or AIO Polish - Gtechniq P1, Zaino AIO, Autoglym SRP, AF Tripple
Wax/Sealant - FK1000p as can be used as Wheel sealant too, cheap and will last years
Applicators - Either cheap ones off eBay or some finger applicators
Spray Bottles - Chemical resistant spray heads
Wheel Cleaner - Valet Pro Bilberry
Tyre Dressing - Megs Endurance or Carpro PERL - has many uses
All Purpose Cleaner - Autosmart G101
Microfibre Towels - Costco 36 for roughly £15
Glass Sealant - Rain Repellent - Gtechniq G5
IPA - Isopropanol Alcohol or Carpro Eraser
Wheel Sealant - FK1000p
PlasticTrim Dressing - Carpro PERL
Glass Polish - Autoglym Fast Glass
Nitrile Gloves - Bodyguards
Detailing Brushes - Valet Pro or the yellow & red ones
Quick Detailer - Autoglym Rapid Detailer, Sonax BSD, Angel Wax QED

It depends on budget and what your looking to achieve but have a look here this guides brilliant:Car Care Advice | Detailing Advice | Polished Bliss

Hahaha it's going to hurt, but the mrs spends £40 on face cream that I occasionally use on my shaved head (don't tell her) to look her best so I can use that in my defence. My cleaning kit won't come anywhere near to what her "war paint" costs lol

Yep it can get expensive but you don't have to get it all in one go. War paint I like that comment [smilie=giggle.gif]
