Not sure if it's broken or I have not got them turned on or something but have noticed the Eco lights working on the dash however not seen a peep out of the Rev lights. When are they meant to come on and what do they represent? Sorry for asking basic questions, only had the car 24 hours though and want to make sure everything is working as it should be (very impressed so far by the way!)

The rev lights should come on when you first turn on the ignition as a check. They only come on as a warning as the engine speed approaches the red line and then they come on in pairs like the eco light.

I'm not sure of the exact engine speed when they start come on but its close to the red line.

OK, so excpet for seeing them when ignition is turned on it is not a good thing to see them. They are almost the opposite of the Eco lights and act as a "please change up a gear before you blow something up" type of gauge?

You don't say which engine you have. I have the 1.8, I lit mine up only once, picked a straight bit of road and left it in 2nd gear, think I was between 60 and 70 mph before anything lit up.

+1 if you have 2.2, then you will see them a lot... If you have the 1.8, you will see the around 6k rpm... Sounds a lot, but it's a high revving engine

Lights come on around 6k rpm mark in blocks of 2 up to the redline,they light up as Eco lights go out

As others have said mate depends on your engine size will only come on when nearing the redline to change up,i only did it once or twice on my 2.2

Had mine 6 months and have never seen them light up, when i did a test drive before buying my car the lights were on all the time in that civic!! hope no one has brought it... LoL

They don't get the chance to light up legally very often in the 1.8 then

Not had them up in my 2.2 once yet. I don't take it much above 3000rpm though and at that stage, it isn't hanging about in my book I'm losing everything behind me going uphill anyway olice:

I took a brave pill last night and decided to rev the engine high, managed to get 4 of the lights to come on in second gear when joining a dual carraige way before the brave pill wore off. It is the 1.8 EX i have.

I used to have an S2000 so know how much these VTEC engines love to be revved high . Not sure how often I will be lighting them up but at least i know they work now

ive had all 6 glowing on several occasions very useful for racing other road users :VTECSMILEY::VroumVroum01: lol and the engine sound good up high revving but it been a while since ive done it im trying to look after my engine now lol

Your engine is protected with rev limiters
Wouldnt look good if lots of honda engines blew up when they hit the redline.
Wont help if you buzz the engine though.

Diesels are redlined for a few seconds in the MOT test.

Yeah I have done it a few times...... Think I got to 64mph in second and that was only 4 lights I think!! And I have only hit the actual rev limiter once :-D woops and that was deffo 6 lights haha

Tis all good fun, but 95% of the time I dont take it over 4k rpm as its not really needed for day to day commuting!
