Installing the reverse cam first...

Following the Bogs guide HERE

Only I'm going down the offside with the cable as my car is an SE and doesn't have the Nav unit. I can't see why I need to dismantle parts of the dash that I don't have to.
Here we go...

Using a deep drive 8mm socket

Yeah, I just saw that after finishing and looking how to change the Head Unit !!

Anyway..

I tried threading the video cable using solid core copper wire that my Bro gave me about 20 years ago (not a lot of it left now) but just couldn't thread it. I figured "this is impossible" so tried some Cat5 (ethernet cable) and..SUCCESS !!

with much struggling the missus and I threaded it through without cutting any plugs off

Yes.. The Missus managed to thread the cable through the rubber thingy without cutting the plug off too.

All wired up. Just need to tidy up the loose wires !!

Took all afternoon so I'll have to do the HU tomorrow .. And find out if the camera is working !!

Oh.. Must've disturbed something as a rear light bulb works intermittently now !!

Grrr

Not looking good at the minute.

Zero from reverse cam and only local radio station. I've got a blue lead from the antennae patch lead that I don't have the foggiest where it goes.

Reverse cam I'll just have to check the connections to reverse light again although my head unit says it has a power sensor wire for reverse. What do I connect that to when the cam is already connected to the reverse lights ?

Given up with the reverse cam... Putting dash back together as I've got to go to work soon. (I work Sunday night to Thursday night)
Hi mate...I'm sure you'll get there. I did a diagram for another DD installer. See here also http://www.civinfo.com/forum/civinfo-traders/51600-sale-reverse-cameras-10.html#post938947

The wire your referring to for power should connect to your reverse +12v also so your powering the Camera and sending a +ve signal to your Double Din unit (separate wire will be required for this).

That way when you select reverse the Camera activates and switches your unit to display video from Camera.

Hope that helps.:)

So I need to tap into the positive feed on the reverse light Twice. Once for the camera and one to the HU.

Ok. I'll need to get a reel of autoleads wire. I'll tap into the other reverse light though and run it down the passenger side as t'other side is getting a little "busy" !!

Thanks dude.

btw.. Peeps who are unimpressed with the OEM sound system.
I cannot believe the vast difference in sound quality. Even through the OEM speakers it sounds great.

The OEM speakers sound a bit "tight" but are handling the extra grunt ok. The Bass isn't earthquake inducing but it's plenty acceptable.

Now I just need to find the "Off" button.

I will post pics soon

Oh.. I had a "Doh!" moment last thing before leaving work. Because I had spent half the afternoon faffing about with the reverse lights on (ignition on too) when I turned the key to fire her up to go to work......

Flat battery

Doh!

Pix..

Ok.. When I removed the centre console I discovered the previous owner/driver was a smoker... Also it seems he's been to Turkey as that's a turkish coin I found under there... I knew my car was a fleet car of some description but I didn't think it'd been that far....Maybe he was a baccy/drug runner ?

My poor car !!
I had to dremel away this corner to make the new fascia fit

Finished product

Changing over the vents to the new fascia was a git.. took ages to fathom out how the bugger unclipped.

Oh.. The BoJo tool from Impulse IS a Godsend. Brilliant little tool

Remove the standard fascia first.. You'll need the vents & hazard warning button to change over to the new fascia.

Then install the cage into the new fascia and slide the new head unit into it. attach all the adapters and offer the new fascia complete with HU up to the dash.

Test your new HU. ie: switch it on !!

You'll find you'll need to trim your dashboard as per the red box in my earlier pic.

Trim as necessary and then push firmly into place. all the fascia legs should click into place and the three screws by the dash screen should line up. Do them up and put everything back together.

Enjoy

Here's a pic of the missus holding it whilst I plug it all up and switch on !!

I suppose you could do it the way you suggest but I had the fascia on the workbench swapping all the stuff over and putting the cage in..checking I put the side plates of the HU in the correct place etc.

Geart, thanks for that.

Have got a few days off this weekend to get mine installed but the weather looks like it might put a stop to that. My garage is only just big enought for the car, certainley not big enought to have the doors wide open so i can do it in there :(

Thanks to Bob @ Impulse I now have excellent radio reception.

The blue wire on the (impulse supplied) antennae patch lead connects to the "System Remote Control" wire on this Head Unit.

Just need to Dynamat (or equivalent) all the doors and upgrade the speakers. I can then start on the rest of the car !!

nice review and pictures which helped me to fit my camera, so i feel it my duty to help you to stop putting all the above information on the net as anyone can get a complete profile on you in seconds ..

use a screen capture for photos ...

Steering wheel buttons all work as they should and A/C does show temp.

I have no idea why it displays the date like that. I suppose they thought they (Impulse) had to fill the blank space with something as (music) tags are no longer displayed on that screen.

Which isn't really a biggy as they ARE displayed on the head unit.

Just took a pic

Shame i do not have the money to do that.

When you select reverse do you have to chance the "source" on the headunit or does it auto switch when in reverse to show what is behind.

Do you have to have that headunit to fit or can it be any with the same screen size.
As i am quite fussy and the red buttons will urk me since i have a 1.8.

The steering wheel buttons work as before with the exception that you now use the mode/volume/track buttons to adjust the clock/date. Holding the track button used to skip albums but now it's fast forward.

The date (or Honda Civic) are displayed where the track/album are displayed on the standard car as this info is not used. They are displayed on the double din screen instead along with album art etc.

my aircon/clock display has the date which is fine, Bob from Impulse said to me if you want it to say Honda Civic you have to connect the blue wire from the adaptor loom to the same power source as the antenna adaptor. I didn't bother, would rather have the date than Honda Civic.
