Just had 5th annual service (200 pounds) at Honda Chiswick. Got a phonecall from service centre, saying that the front and rear brakes were 80% and 90% worn, need change disks and pads. Parts prices are 760 pounds + 136 pounds labour. Finally got it down to 500 for the job, not very happy, still feel been ripped off.

I've never understood how the disks can wear so quickly, pads yes, disks no.

I'd be tempted to just have new pads in

It's a kown dealer scam because they know a lot will say yes out of panic... I was told mine were 90% worn at the rear once and they wanted £285!

Checked them myself and they were only 20% ish.... Will never go back the that dealer (in Enfield)

As for asking for your pads, do you actually think they will give yours back and not a crusty set kept just in case someone tries to be smart :(

I'd just change them myself. Probably one of the easiest things you can do on a car. Honda quoted £250. I bought the pads and discs for £77.

Our daughter was caught twice for pads and disks on her Volvo V70 and Freelander, so when the cars were going in for servicing, I would mark them before and I would tell the guys that if new parts were needed - I wanted to see the originals. ;)

I would have thought that the discs should last the life of the car ?

Usually not, but on the other hand you usually don't need to change them often either. Perhaps once or twice in the life of an average car?
