First pic shows car fitted with stock 18" wheels and Dunlop ST30's as supplied new and other pic is 17" Honda wheels and Goodyear Ultra Grip winter tyres.

I reckon the 18" wheels do look better but the 17" ones aren't so bad. As I've said in other posts, I actually prefer the ride on the 17" wheels.

This is my reply to another question posted here http://www.civinfo.com/forum/honda-cr-v/66021-winter-tyres-fitted-now.html
I got 4 new wheels off eBay for £320 which I reckon is about half what a Honda dealer would have charged. I kept checking on eBay every few days for about a month until I saw some for sale.

I got the tyres from camskill.co.uk at £140 each. I later got Kwik Fit to put the tyres on the wheels and swap them with the existing wheels. That cost £12 per tyre. They did a very good job too.

I bought the tyres 2 months ago having checked the obvious retailers like Kwik Fit who, at the time, didn't have them available. I've subsequently found out that Kwik Fit can now supply Continental Cross Contact Winter tyres size 225/65T17 for £150 each fully fitted. This is a very good tyre too according to reviews.

The winter tyres didn't cost any more than their summer equivalents so assuming I keep the car long enough (a few years) then normal tyre wear will be spread across 2 sets of tyres and so I can delay having to replace the summer tyres. So in my case the additional cost of fitting winter tyres is the cost of the wheels (only) and fitting them. (And obviously there's a cash flow consideration as well.)
I don't know if I was just lucky getting the wheels on eBay or whether they appear fairly regularly. Each wheel appeared new apart from a couple of small marks on them but these were the kind of marks that would appear after a few months normal use anyway.

Were the All Season tyres the car came with not good enough?
Good question. I bought the car 3 months ago so haven't had the opportunity to try the all season tyres in winter conditions. Other people have said that the all seasons are actually pretty good in winter.

I fitted winter tyres because I spend time in the Alps during winter and 'proper' snow tyres are essential.

Also, when the all seasons need replacing I'll fit summer tyres on the 18's because I don't like the harsher ride and noise of the ST30's.

The All Season tyres work quite well with the RT4WD system ... for traction.

Cornerning and braking are a bit different and real winter tyres do make the difference in these areas.

There isn't much choice as real "summer" tyres in those dimensions :(
