ive had my sport navi a week now and tested the satnav a few times
every time ive got to say its awful no faith in it at all
routes I know well its telling me to turn right when on straight roads with no turn offs then telling me to turn around
it even wanted me to turn into a petrol station and join the road on the other side

The Garmin standalone units have similar problems.

On those standalone units the advice, which more than often works according to subsequent replies, is to perform a full master reset, after you backup your favourites. Something to do with installing new maps and the way the units read the HERE mapping.

How you do the same on the built in unit I don't know.

I can agree with kremmen on that, as I've said elsewhere, I'd get all manner of dubious routes until I updated to RC8 with a factory reset.

Since then, it's been perfectly good

Which 'begs the question' why don't Garmin inform you to perform a full master reset with a new map.

Hi my 2015 Tourer with 6SC4 Connect Head Unit does. Have successfully installed Sygic sat nav to it as it came without navigation.
I managed to install Google Maps for navigation and now very tempted to buy Sygic (currently £42, normally £93). Google Maps was installed by way of a 'hack' and it does the job but on the odd occasion it freezes and sometimes exits by itself. I have always used Google and find it very clear and like the way it recommends alternative route if there is traffic ahead. I did get to use Sygic on trial but that wasn't long enough to get a good comparison against Google. One thing that does stand out with Sygic is it fills the right hand side of the screen with menu buttons unlike Google.

Looking at Auto Express group test it puts Sygic near the bottom and Google around the middle. Having said that I am still drawn towards Sygic because it is designed for MirrorLink in mind.

Is it worth spending on Sygic or shall I keep Google?

so how do I do a factory reset
and does this remove any updates it might have
I believe as a supporter of this site there is help somehow on how to get updates
I was told it has 2 free updates left from honda but don't really want to take it in unless I have to

I think you will find that the two 'free updates' that you are referring to are the annual map updates, not soft/firmware updates. Worth checking though.
Map updates seem to be making their way around from about now to January time(ish). Haven't heard any reports of the 2019 maps yet though.

As M8 says, the updates you're thinking of are the GPS Map updates - Those are ~5 years from purchase, released early each year - You'll find they come out for certain around March.

Factory resets roll back intermediate updates performed using the honda app store on the unit, but not major versions - RC6, 8 etc.

When you are next in for a service, ask for the RC8 Update - They should do it free of charge; They'll reset the unit for you and pop on RC8. If you ask them nicely, they may even do the maps for you - Though they can be done yourself.

Regards Sygic you may as well buy the GPS for Android version rather than the Car Navi version as it's only £9.49 and gets all the new features first. Unless if course you want the Mirror Link capability. The Car version uses an older format style.

so how do I find if mine has been updated to rc8
if not how do I do it myself
my car was serviced recently just before I bought it so im wondering if a update has caused the issues
