Despite asking for Bilt Hamber soft clay for Christmas, I received the Meguiars Smooth Surface Clay Kit. Would this be okay to use or is it a bit too harsh for the paintwork on a Civic?
If not recommended, do people think it would be okay to use with my wife's Fiesta?

Thanks.

Megs smooth is fine on Honda paintwork. I have also used it with water as the lube without any problems, it just requires patience and regular folding (as does any clay tbh!).

Hope this helps.

Any clay is fine to use really providing that you use a lubricant that will stop it damaging the paint.

Many people say that you can use the BH stuff with just water and that it true, you can, however I don't just to be on the safe side. What I use is demon shine diluted down at a 4:1 mix which works out much cheaper than any of the branded lube's!

Good luck with it though :)

I have used BH with just tap water & it was absolutely fine, no problem at all.

I wouldnt use Demon Shine.....Its adding another product as you clay..I want clean paintwork as a base..However, it works for you go for it!
With BH Clay..it fine to use just water but I find it moves better with a small amount of APC and washing up liquid to make it slippier

Used the Megs on mine, still as smooth as silk, when you run out of the lubricant just fill back up with water in the detailer spray bottle the remaining liquid will be good enough to use again.

Another tip after you have washed just use the remaining water as lubricant.

yep, i do that as well if the car is in the shade. the waters so hard in kent that water spots are a nightmare at the best of times so i give the car a quick dry before claying if im working in the sun..
