Hi,

My car's last MOT in October had an advisory that the offside front brake pad was wearing thin.

I have also had some juddering and vibrations through the steering wheel at around 60mph and above, and when under braking.

Since last night, there has been a scraping noise from the offside front wheel (from what I can tell). It's quite loud but very slight at the same time, if that makes sense. Only happens when the wheels are moving. The funny thing is the sound goes when I make a turn to the left, then comes back when going straight or right. Braking still works fine.

Has anyone heard of anything like this before and might be able to pinpoint what it could be?

Cheers.

Did you change the pads?
Not yet, going to order some Project Mu's as I want to upgrade them. The noise is happening when not under braking too.

Just been out to poke the shield behind the disk with a screw driver, took it round the block but the noise still seems to be there.

Going to put it on the ramps next week but was just wondering.

Primarily for safety but you could end up having to buy discs too.

The pads have a metal piece sticking out, which will hit the disc, with pad material remaining.

It's this METAL ON METAL that makes the noise... get the new pads on ASAP.

You won't need discs (unless you needed them anyway).... they're metal, not made of cheese, so some scraping won't do any harm over just a few miles.

If it's going to be 100's of miles, before you get pads, you'll need to get some £20 pads from EUROPARTS.
