Hello,

What you make of this.

First picture is of my spark plugs 7k miles ago, second picture is of now.

Am I the only one thinking thats quite a big difference for only 7k miles?

Any idea what it might be if its not normal wear?

Datalogs have it running at 12.5 - 12.8 AFR pretty much most the time. Unless the O2 sensor has given up?

Mine were like this on the last service which was about 2 months after the remap, so swapped them out just to be sure.

I put mine down to 27k and Honda fuelling at the time, and I haven't looked at them since to be honest. From the looks of the triangles at the back of my exhaust I can see why they would look like this though.

I estimate it's had about 60 WOT runs on TDI's dyno in that 7k miles.

Yeeppp - running WAY too rich - or possibly oil over-filled ...

They look just like the spark plug on my lawnmower, that I changed on Tuesday ! ...

Mine had done 44k miles.

If the car is over fueling then my O2 sensor is out.

Yes i get all the black stuff come out the exhaust also

Will re-check plugs in 3k miles.

if its to rich it will be washing the bores aswell and black stuff from exhaust is carbon ( un burnt fuel) :(

What effect would you expect plugs looking like this to have on day to day driving? I have the carbon on my exhaust triangles but I guess thats because I'm running the goup n map... Still a safe map as far as I'm concerned though...not ideal but not unsafe.

Having fitted new ones, I feel no difference.

Its on a dyno on Sat so any leaps in power can be attributed to the plugs or the oil change I just did.

AFR is fine so if it was running rich, it certainly isnt now.

My car has had a hard 7 months

I did an oil change today and it last had one 8k miles ago, honestly Ive never seen oil so dirty in any of my petrol cars. My car has had a hard 7 months, which could be attributed to the big change in plug condition over 7k miles.

If the oil is black after a short period it shows that its a good oil, people think if their oils clear after a few months its a good oil, but a good oil will hold all the crap from the engine in suspension and appear black very quickly where as a bad oil lets the crap attach to the engine parts and appears clear!

Indeed. :top:

Equally its good to get it out when it is that dirty. Same oil has gone in. Shell 5-30.

Yeah same here on my FN2, I change about 6k miles-8k miles. Given the filth I found in it this time round I will stick to 6k miles.

The wifes car ... every 12k miles.
