Hola,

I was following another civic through roadworks last night and our speeds were matched, I glanced at their speedo (as it was lit up bright) and it was 2mph difference !!!

I can't check the other car, but I can mine, so has anyone got any ideas ?
Where is the speedo sensor, maybe it's a bit dirty ?

Cheers chaps

All speedos have a built-in inaccuracy.

MY09 Civics are slighty more accuate than older ones though. At 70mph older ones overread by about 5 mph while MY09 and newer will overread by 2-3mph.

Assuming the other car was an 09 plate or newer, there's nothing to worry about :)

Yes, it was an 09 plate.

So I don't trust the speedo then !

What's wrong with the SatNav, mine's fine :)

Certainly better than fighting with a long lead and mounting bracket in the mornings.

Also, the traffic works, unlike most of the PND devices from what I read.

1. Rolling circumference - my tyre pressures dropped from 36psi to 31 psi when the temp dropped from about 10c to 0c ;)
2. Diesel dicrepancy I spent a long time trying to work out on mine.
Its actually tied to engine rpm = 1mph error / 1000 rpm.
3. Petrols seem to have a higher discrepancy. Dont know if it is because of the higher engine rpm

Mine between 4-5 mph out doing 30mph actually doing 25mph whent to Honda and was told this is a normal acurance through out Honda cars. And there was nothing to worry about. At least when I'm doing 35 mph im actually doing 30mph I feel like a propped law braker. And yes I have had this checked out it is 4-5mph out.

Tell us more? The built in Sat Nav speed is very accurate (accessed via the hidden menus') and matches my iPhone TomTom App and old Garmin.

Or do you mean the actual performance of the navigation? Again, I think it works very well especially now it has the v3.52 maps an the traffic (TMC) is spot on... the only minor downside is the lack of a 3D view.

... and the facility to show the true SatNav speed on it.
... and the facility to put on our own speedcam POI's with alerts.

This would be borne out by my experience. I have an after market satnav with a speed camera indicator which used to beep at me if I was within range and doing 4mph over the posted limit, in my '57 plate.

Now it's transferred to my '10 plate Civic, it beeps at 2mph over. And absolutely loses it's tiny mind if I go any quicker.

Was going to post about this the other day. I drive through a speed sign everyday and my 08 plate was 5 mphs out but my 59 plate is about 2 mph out.

I'm glad my car reads about 5mph over what I'm actually doing. That way theres less chance of being done my speed cameras and the average speed checkers ;-)
