Just found this and thought it may be of interest. It adds a Spellchecker to the toolbar for checking any web input, useful for anyone not using the Google toolbar which already contains one.

The latest Opera v9.01 (out last week) is quite nice but there's just no switching from Firefox as it simply cannot be beaten for customising it to your liking, there are 1000's of extensions you can try - I have a standard set of 12 extensions I bolt onto every Firefox I install.

Chris, maybe worth trying the latest Firefox 1.5.0.6 if it's a while since you last tried it on your laptop.
You WILL come to the dark side ;)

I'll tell you what, I'll download Firefox and compare it to the newest Opera (downloading as I write this)

I may convert, but I've been happy with Opera for a few years now

Ok, so now I have both Firefox and Opera, side by side they seem very similar - so what makes Firefox better?

One thing I really like on Opera is the magic wand for remembering passwords etc. Does Firefox have a similar feature?

Tools Option Privacy Passwords for the password manager, and FF will ask and remember passwords as you go. But really your first stop is Tools Extensions Get more extensions, and start to make FF work the way you want it. There's an extension for everything! Start with tab browser preferences, fasterfox and the two above and see how you go.

hmm, I had smiley Xtra 4 extension on my earlier Firefox version, but on this 2.0 Beta 1 it's not compatible, tried to reinstall latest Smiley Xtra 4.0.6, no go

Pottsy, any reason why TabBrowserPreferences and not Tab Mix Plus which lets you do every conceviable thing with tabs?

I stopped using TBP a long time ago when TMP came on the scene.

AdBlock Plus is the other most important extension:

Oh and Chris... if you liked Opera's smooth scrolling then try this one, you can actually read web pages as you scroll them ULTRA-smoothly...

is there a way to scale a page to fit the width of the screen (you could do this in Opera) so that pictures shrink to the width of the screen and text wraps rather than running of the right of the screen?

I think Opera is the only browser that has this "scaling" technology, hence why they pretty much own the mobile/portable sector of the market with their mobile browser.
