I've got a very high pitched almost brittle squeak from the rev counter area.

I can get it to stop if I pull out slightly (from the right of the steering wheel) the 'n' shaped cowl that sits above the steering column and in front of the rev counter window.

I've taken the trim off and tighten screws but I can't get rid of it. :(

Anyone else had this an know how to get rid? I currently have a piece of rubber jammed in but would prefer a neater solution.

I had this really very annoying.

Bit of 1mm insulating tape cut to length and pushed under the offending area with a flat head screwdriver. Did both sides to be safe.

That insulating tape is a must with the civic :/

Thanks for that Hawker :D

I couldn't determine the exact cause but your post gave me the solution.

I used a piece of paper folded in half and cut into a triangle with a loop of tape to hold it in place. Pushed it into the left hand side at the top and now it's silent.

I was thinking of trading it in because of it - it was driving me nuts.

I can't believe Honda never put a gasket or something between those parts.
