Anyone else having this problem? I have been looking for a few months now with no luck (or get beaten to view/put an offer on any clean cars). Willing to travel far for the right car.

My criteria for me to actually go and view a car are:

To have a reasonably clean mot history (no advisories that are lurking year after year).
Service every year with at least 1/2 from a Honda main dealer or Honda specialist
No more than 3 owners

I find this eliminates around 80% of cars on classifieds, am I being overly cautious?
Even the approved Honda fn2's don't look all that from the MOT histories, keen to hear how other people's searches have gone.

I had the same problem, took me about 2 months to find mine. I had a list of 'want's', 'must have's', and 'desirable's' which narrowed down the cars I actually followed up. A few I looked at were totally wasted journeys, my idea of 'clean and tidy' obviously differs from other peoples! :)

I ended up travelling over 200 miles to view a car from a dealer, I'd spoken to him on the phone, run an HPI check, checked the MOT history, got the dealer to send me a couple of walk-around videos of the car, got him to send me scans of the service history and by the time I got there to test drive it I think I knew more about the car than the dealer did! :)

It paid off though, I got the car for a decent price, it had a couple of faults but I've worked through them and I'm now happy with the purchase.

Don't give up.......there's a car with your name on it out there and it'll be worth the wait once you find it! Good luck in your search.

I am living in Norwich a lot of the time so I can sympathies on how far you have to travel sometimes to view cars.

I am generally pretty cautious about 2nd hand car dealers since having a bad experience a number of years ago. It always pays to be cautious when you are risking £5000 of your own money.

I think FN2s have got to the point where they are cheap enough to be bought by idiots who don't care about them now, much like what happened to EP3s too, the search continues!

What mileage? Colour. Spec you after? Might sell mine. As it's done sod all milage in the past 2 yrs.

Would prefer GT but it isn't a deal breaker. I am not overly concerned about mileage as long as there is evidence it has been looked after, No preference on colour either. PM me some more details if you are considering.

I would much rather buy from someone on here than Bobs Bargain Cars.

I wouldn't worry too much about number of owners, people change cars a lot these days. A 10 year old car changed every couple of years equates potentially to 5 or 6 previous owners.

Paid 7k for mine with 23k on the clock and only one owner from new with fhsh. Well worth waiting and looking around. Thankfully don't see many chavs about with them near me!

I've owned my FN2 from new, it has FHSH and if there has been an advisory on the MOT, it's been sorted properly by a main dealer! It's nearly done 93k and I still love it!!
It's Milano red so has some small pin head chips to the front end and some slightly bigger ones that I've filled in but that's it!
Did think about selling it last year to be more practical with a brand new Civic SR Tourer - but couldn't part with the Type R!

Haha I don't think I could still bring myself to part with it anyway!! It's my daily commute as well as the everyday school run - but i still keep the in and outside looking the best it can be!
I've replaced the exhaust system for a stainless cat back system from piper - mainly because of the ridiculous price for the standard mild steel honda replacement. The noise isn't too loud - just a lovely rumble.

It's so true that good Type Rs are hard to come by- I often browse the classifieds just to see what's out there but I wouldn't buy the vast majority of FN2s that are for sale because of the poor service history or visibly poor condition. September is often a good time to look (assuming you can wait that long!) as the new registrations get released, so a lot of people look to sell around that time. Keep to your criteria and keep looking- the good ones do come along! :smile3:

To be fair I was like this but with the age of the cars now you will find there are adviseries that crop up due to age and general use I got mine with 68k 2 years ago and the mot history wasn't great but all had been done at a Honda garage only needed a new front shock absorber (common problem) and tires (new fronts last year)and 2 brake pads mechanically its sound as a pound and electronically it's just the odd niggle but I put that down to the age of the car

I bought mine @ 18k and have owned it for over 5 years. 77k done now with full service history and MOT, either at Honda or Grinspeed. I do quite a few miles but I can't bring myself to part with it!

It depends on where the car has lived too, I wouldn't want something with 20k - 30k that's sat in London at traffic lights all of its days... Give me a high miler that's done motorway miles any day... Getting rid of mine soon but at 140k, it's starting to be past its best. Plus there are some issues with it I'm not prepared to throw money at as I am getting rid of it..
