Hi all

we have a 06 1.8 es civic with a engine light on which when checked it turned out to be the temp sensor, now i must point out that the light doesn't stop on all the time over the last 5 weeks it has been on and off several times, but the car runs normally, heater works and it doesn't over heat, now some people have said its the thermostat but if that wasn't working it would make the car overheat, so i'm thinking that together with the temp gauge showing less than the normal i'm thinking its the sensor can anybody confirm this.

The thermostat could be stuck open in which case the engine would take a long time to warm up and may be the cause of a low temperature gauge reading.

I believe there is a temperature sensor that tells the ecu the engine tempersture to control the fuel/air mixture, but it could be the same sensor as the temperature gauge.
