I am keeping an eye on it, but luckily it only comes on of you try and rag it up a hill, so should be all good for an MOT. If not I've left myself a week before it expires.

have the same car as you 07 1.4 idsi with the exact same issues and pretty much same scenario (just got the car, been serviced every year ect) as you but for me its the issue is only starting off by the sounds of it, as doesnt happen all that often ( maybe once every 3 trips), along with having a temperature issue that i believe is the thermostat which im replacing, this is the only other issue i have with the car, ordered 8 new sparkplugs for it to see if that will be any help, was also about to start going down the road of doing the fuel filter route as have also cleaned out the egr valve and issue still happened after that was done. so any update of any changes in the future would be very helpful. will let you know if i ever figure it out aswell.

yo I just also tried unplugging the EGR and the stuttering is still there think I might also try and just replace the spark plugs even though they seemed totally ok when checked out, like what else could it be then..

gummy injectors maybe?
try a dose of injector cleaner in your next fill up.

Also having this problem on my 1.8 petrol, changed the sparks a month ago (looked like a crappy old set when I checked them first) and it that seemed to fix for a bit but now it’s back. Gonna clean my EGR and give it a does of injector cleaner next.

ok so I finally got a chance to show it to my one reliable mechanic while the stuttering occured, which was lucky coz sometimes it goes for few hours without stuttering, and I got a date for February 14th when he will properly check it out and try to find the problem. He's good with electronics and doesn't think its the spark plugs after witnessing it. thinks its gotta be some wire or some piece of electronic and will check it properly then.

The stuttering occurred after unplugging the EGR valve, just took longer to occur, so I took it to the stealership today. They didn't experience the stuttering as they didn't allow it to heat up (even though I gave them detailed instructions on how to reproduce the issue) and tried to charge me £120 for no new information. I politely suggested that I wasn't really up for spending £120 and managed to settle at half price. Tried to tell me I needed to book in a live demo with a mechanic but I don't really fancy giving them more money.

I have noticed that I can cause the stuttering in neutral however, which suggests it's definitely a fuel/air issue. I've cleaned the MAF and tried two shots of redex and no luck with either.

My code reader is showing that my throttle position only maxes out at 70% in the live data readout, so I'm not sure if it's massively gummed up in there. I'll try cleaning it over the weekend, and if that doesn't work I'd be interested to see what comes of @peter_voly's mechanic appointment.

Feels like I'm almost getting to the end of this issue via a process of elimination 😂.

Just a heads up. CRZ have crazy electrical issues when the nomral battery starts going flat even though thos enot in the know change the motor battery. Also I had cutting out problem in a 2.2 type s GT 2007. Loose battery earth on the terminal was seriously aggravated when cornering or braking hard. But yours sounds much more consistant (fault) than random (road conditions and driving). Especially if its doing it in neutral. How old is the battery ?

No clue mate, bought the car second hand in September. I'll look for dates on it but it's definitely been replaced at some point.

Can't find a date on the battery. There seems to be some extra space inside of the battery tray/holder, but all batteries suggested to me by Halfords, euro car parts and RAC have the same dimensions 🤷.
