Fans of Honda's four-wheeled sport-bike, the S2000, will want to snap one up soon, as Honda has announced that the S2000's ten-year production run will end at the close of the 2009 model year. The high-revving roadster has always had more in common with the company's high performance motorcycles, thanks to it's 9,000 rpm redline and minimal low-end torque. The S2000's abilities to tackle the twisties and assault the track have made it one of the go-to choices for enthusiasts, and with plenty of aftermarket support, it became a prime platform for tuners.

US sales of the S2000 dipped to a mere 72 units in December bringing the 12-month total to 2,538, down from 4,302 the year before. Over its ten-year run Honda has sold 110,000 S2000s world wide with about 65,000 of those here in the US.

The 2009 Honda S2000 will be the final model year produced of the award-winning roadster, Honda announced today. First introduced in 1999 for the 2000 model year, the S2000 helped define its segment with class-leading handling, engine technology and value. Originally envisioned as a limited-edition tribute to Honda's 50th anniversary, S2000 production was extended in response to customer demand and critical acclaim.

"The S2000 is a sports car designed by enthusiasts for enthusiasts," said John Mendel, executive vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "It raised the bar for all future roadsters, and it's already considered a classic by many Honda fans."

As a true sports car that can serve as a practical and fun daily driver yet feel equally at home on a racetrack, this concept further evolved with a club racer-inspired S2000 CR trim, first offered in the 2008 model year. The S2000 has been honored with multiple awards through the years, including four appearances on Car and Driver Magazine's coveted "10-Best" list.

The S2000 is sold in 64 countries around the world with cumulative world-wide sales of over 110,000 since its introduction in 1999. Over 65,000 S2000s have been sold in the United States since 1999.

The last Honda sport car will leave us , fd2 will remain only ..

Truely an epic car imo. Under rated by many people.

Hopefully it is replaced with an equally capable and fun sports car.

I believe that their cunning plan is to put all their efforts into Hybrids and be ahead of the game in two years time when we are out of this mess.

The guys in England are luckier because just pick the FD2 (or any other jdm product ) to the boat (in Japan) and ship into England.
The steering wheel is on the "right" side .

Group 20 insurance and warranty which is worth toilet paper means a FD2 is not as attractive as you think.
