So lusting after a fk2, prices are crazy though and just outta reach for peeps like me, over 20k for a decent model. So frustrating I can tell you.
Been looking at Astra vxr mk6 in white, can pick a decent one up for around 12k to 14k that’s 6-8k less. Not as powerful but possibly good daily and apparently a decent drive and enjoyment, couple years like.

I'd get myself a Golf GTi if I had to get a hot hatch. Simply because of the ride quality...

Still using the Civic anyway with no real dramas. I have inherited an old 1.6 FSI Golf which I prefer driving to Civic. I've got until August to sell one of them!
Sell the Honda, I'd have thought that was obvious to you - you hate the ride and the lack of low down power. I still think you should drive it at the top of the rev range before you do & you may have a Damascus moment ;)
With the Pedal Commander the low end response improves a bit. And the 1.8 engine is fine enough, it's just not hot or even really warm. Perfectly functional day to day.

The ride sucks big time and can't ever be fixed I don't think. Reasons for keeping it is that I've done sh1t loads to it so the car should be good for awhile now and I'm about to commute mostly by train again so I will won't be driving much anyway.

It's MoT is up in July and the Golf I have is a wreck. So it'll depend if Civic passes MoT and if Golf can be fixed.

if im honest mate, its been back on my mind, but not quite yet, I know she would go to a good home so i wouldn't ask for those prices, you got first dibs if it does, divas word sista!
I wouldn't spend my own money on an Astra, especially not a cooking one that's even more likely to be mistreated.

We use them at work amongst other brands, although they are treated like [email protected], they are serviced on time but always seem to break.

Doesn't beat the Peugeot 308 that completely shut down today and needed to be recovered by a lorry. It was a 22 plate car too...

Buy cheap, buy twice
i wouldn't personally own anything Vauxhall, the 90s called their want their GM tech back, also seeing most german manufacturers quality plummeting id be hard pushed for anyhting from VAG or BMW tbvh, all cheap tat sold as premium, mercedes and bmw aint near the quality they were in the 90s. the funniest is tyhe A class B class and C class, hows that mercedes tdi engine doing...oh its a renault engine and gearbox eeeew no thanks! Ironically thats how Hyundai, Kia and others have mopped up in the uk the last decade or so with better built quality, warranty and dealer network.
I had a Vauxhall once - in the 90's. It was a 1.5TD Nova... the engine was absolutely awesome but the rest of the car was utter shite.... The engine was an Isusu unit - nuff said ;)

Best car ive every owned was my 1988 Cavalier Sri 130.

I wouldnt. They are the most boring cars in the world to look at. No idea how people tell them apart from a base model. Only Golf id ever consider would have been the R Estate.

That could be levelled at any hot hatch. 90% of the time they're arguably no different from the base models in regular driving.

It's why modern stuff has the silly R line/ST Line/Sports spec that makes mundane stuff trimmed the same as the hot version.

Whether I fix the 1.6 Golf I have or keep the Civic. Neither are going to be too far off their hotter models for the driving I'll be doing most of the time.
Have any of you guys removed the heatshields on fn2 that are fixed directly under the driver seat and passenger footwell? Any problems? Had to remove mine as both badly corroded.
Yes, I ripped them off my 1.8 two years ago and 15k+ miles. No issues since although I live in SW England so it's not that wet/salty here...

Was a bit concerned when I saw this as the calipers look very much like the Pro Race Kit from Freaky Parts

I put the Pro Race on mine a few years ago and hated them as they squealed like f--k just as you came to a stop (mainly due to them having no slider pins to support the pads and a useless anti rattle spring), and what ever I tried it never stopped (DS2500 and EBC Yellow pads used) I ended up refurbing the original and refitted them.
But, I've just watched this 😄

and the kit looks very good and really well put together, so looking forward to seeing you fit them and test them out.

Yeah I think it’s a common ish design, those pro race are like AP reps. Or they look like that to me.
We shall see how theses EBC’s do, I haven’t seen anyone fit them to an FN2 yet as it’s a fairly new kit I believe.
