Just a quick Heads Up to anyone in the Merseyside / North Wales area.

I've fairly recently had my 18" Storm Alloy wheels refurbished by Greg and his guys at The Wheel Specialist - Chester.

As I had mentioned that I'd posted on this Forum, Greg's said that any Forum members contacting him, please mention 'CIVINFO' and you'll qualify for a 5% Discount on the going rate.

A couple of photos of mine both at TWS-C and fitted.

My selection was 'Chrome', but obviously there are LOADS of options available.

Nice. How much did all 4 cost fitted altogether if you don't mind me asking?

I've been quoted £276 (inc. labour) elsewhere for the OEM 18" R alloys:

  • Tyres removed
  • Wheels stripped and refurbed
  • Powder coated in gloss black
  • Tyres refitted + balanced

That's too much, it's around £160 here for a top class job.

For all 4? Refurbed and powder coated? Only problem with that is that I don't live in Glasgow, and can't trust myself to do the job properly myself. :p

Best thing is to ask the guys at the time.
I paid extra for the 'chrome finish' - its a lot more difficult!

I paid about £80 / wheel.

Standard price is around £70-75 / wheel for the full strip to bare metal, primer, powder coat, lacquer.
They pre-roast to try to eliminate any 'gas pockets', and smooth, etc. - better contacting them for full details.

I see several TWS have 'offers' of 'set of 4' for various prices, so there may be offers from time to time.

£160 for a set of 4 if stripped, cleaned, primered, powder coated with all of the stages is an absolute bargain - understandable if its simply rub down and spray.

I have tried to shop around a fair bit around the area, the quote I received was the lowest I could find to be honest.

TWS sounds like it's around the same if not a little bit more expensive, but with 5% discount for members of civinfo it sounds a little more tempting.

Thanks for the info all the same :).

Edit: How long did the whole process take Al? I was told 2 days including prep etc, and as I teach I'd have to wait until the holidays started!

Cool. Might ask TWS nearer to me if they price match (or maybe even go lower) ;). If you don't ask, you won't know!

Same in 'Chester' - its near Ellesmere Port and 'Cheshire Oaks' complex.
Get in first thing, and the wheels are ready in the evening.

SOME finishes might give a couple of problems, most don't.

For mine, I wasn't in a hurry, I just wanted it 'the most right' possible.

Greg mentioned there were a few areas he wasn't happy with, so they cleaned, prepared, coated again.
Chrome's the absolute worst - every very slight blemish stands out.

They have a full set of wheels on display indicating typical finishes to 'help you decide'.

Basically, 3 of my Storms were untouched, just some of the surface coating wasn't as good as 'it was', and I'd lightly caught the 4th one, twice - front N/S of course!!
I went through several different people, asking if they could match the 'smoked chrome' effect specifically Honda used on the Storms.

Some said 'YES, NO PROBLEM', which I took with a pinch of salt, as others 'more reputable' were saying 'We can probably get close, but it won't be a perfect match with the overlaying, its really better all together, but we will get close. Thing is YOU will see the difference, even if others cannot.'

This sounded like marketing-speak, but was actually correct.
Then I started looking at options .... the rest is history, as they say.
