Welcome to my first ever build thread, I've just bought a NHB CTR GT.

This is my second 8th Gen Civic, my first was a Vivid Blue CTS 1.8. I had great fun owning, driving and modding the car however, the time has now come to upgrade to something a bit more powerfull :)

After some searching on popular car sales sites I found the perfect car.
She had covered just over 30,000 miles and had one lady owner after a test drive I knew she was the one, the dealer took my car as part ex and I was really pleased with the deal I got, I even got to keep my wheels as the rages fitted where scratched to bits and I kept my parcel shelf as it was missing from the CTR.

So anyway after picking her up the first thing I did was Fit some Team heko's and give her a good detailing as she was covered in swirls,

After a wash and a polishing just waiting for the polish to dry before buffing.

After a good waxing.

The second thing to be looked at was the exhaust trims as they were filthy, the flash on the camera picks up on the chrome underneath the soot but they were pretty much black to the naked eye. After complaining about this my girlfriend bought me a tube of this as it was recommended on the forum as the best stuff for the job :)

After a lot of elbow grease I managed to get them into a state I was happy with they will need some more work at some point though,

Before,

After :D

After the cleaning session I was very happy with how the car was looking. This didn't last for long as I was back on the internet that evening looking at other bits, the only thing on the car that wasn't perfect was the gear gaitor as it had a large worn patch on the front of it, a new one was ordered.

Yesterday morning the postman bought some goodies,

D1 Spec Earthing Kit,

A new Tax Disc Holder to replace the ghastly dealer branded one,

A new gear gaitor to replace the worn one,

I didn't take a picture of the wear on the old one before starting to fit the new one but this is the 2 side by side while I was fitting them,

New one fitted,

While I was waiting for the parts to be delivered I started work on cleaning up the engine bay as it was grubby when I got the car, I've been doing a little each day through the week still need to get the steam cleaner on it but its looking very respectable at the moment,

I fitted the earthing kit today and I'm really happy with how it looks. I'm still not 100% sure on how effective or necessary they are but the logic seems correct so its not going to do any harm.

The battery terminal was really tight to get on.

I plan to move the connection on the front of the engine block at some point, to one out of the way over the back I just ran out of time and daylight today.

My future plans for the car start with brakes as they are really poor imo,

I plan to change to Cosworth streetmaster pads Sumopower do these at a good price,

I'm Still open to suggestions for Discs, I would like to keep to original size for insurance purposes but I like the look of grooved and dimpled,

I'm going for the do-luck braided hoses from Sumopower, and 5.1 Fluid.

After sorting the Brakes I will be looking at Induction.
I think I will probably go for a HKS RSK I know its not the best for pure gains but my god the sound is awesome, I have considered the gruppe M but its a bit pricey and nothing else really takes my fancy the only other option for me would be a driven crazy scoop in and a panel filter if I required more gains from induction in the furture.

After that It would be a new exhaust system, I really like the sound of the Martelius, I'm going to meet Nat tomorrow and he has one fitted also paired with a RSK I will have a listen to his and see if its too loud for me before I get one though.

After the winter is over I will be looking at some new wheels, I really like the new wheels Rota just launched, Rota GR6 I'm thinking a Bronze colour would look good with the black and may compliment a slight yellow theme, possibly calipers and some accents in the engine bay maybe a yellow towing eye.

I think the Mugen wing is gorgeous but its way out of my price range and a lot of people seem to have one nowadays so I think I would like to go for the seeker wing once I get back to cosmetic modding. Its very subtle I would defiantly have it black on the black spoiler.

Inbetween the major mods, there will be lots of little bits going on, various bulb upgrades and footwell lights, calipers painted, maybe some floor bars and braces added as and when I find ones I like (the ultra-racing range is looking good).

I would also like to address the issue of the suspension soon but I can't decide If I should splash out on some coil-overs or take the lowering spring route that has worked for a lot of others.

Thanks for reading hopefully I will have more updates soon.

As I said before I'm looking for suggestions for brake upgrades, If anyone has any Ideas please post a link for me.

Also if anyone has any comments or opinions I'd love to hear them :worms:

Car looks very nice.:) Should be good to see your mods as you get them.

Can't believe the state of your old gaitor, looks like somethings tried to eat it!

ABP do Stoptech discs, might be worth a try.

I have no idea what happened to the old gaitor or how you get excessive wear on that part (just under the front of the knob where your finger tips would rest.

I thought Stoptechs were only available in a larger size disc, I will look myself but would you be able to provide a link?
I don't get on very well with ABP as they don't have a catalog or a website where you can browse parts/prices and I'm not available during their opening hours so email is the only option but its normally quicker and easier to get answers or prices instantly elsewhere.
nice car mate, looks good, I'll be keeping my eye on your progress ;)

What are the benefits of the earthing kit and would this fit a derv

Most earthing kits are universal so would fit any car, as I said I'm not 100% convinced they are required on modern cars the joins between panels are pretty solid but I think they look good and can't do any harm unless your really anal about weight. If you want the one I have I can dig out the eBay link for you.

There is more discussion here, http://www.civinfo.com/forum/electronics/48854-earthing-kit.html (sorry for lack of proper link on my phone atm).

If you still need more info Google "grounding kit" and read up.
Your off to a good s:rolleyes:tart, keep going [smilie=upyeah.gif]
Thanks Ed, hopefully will see you at a meet again next year.

Thanks for all the positive comments guys.

So Lisa was browsing the forum last night (My other half). When all of a sudden she jumps on me and pushes the laptop under my nose saying there's a HKS RSK for sale and nobody has bought it yet, anyway to cut a long story short I bought it and collected it last night :D

All cleaned up and ready to fit.

The Kit came with a nice red filter, although im probably going to change to a yellow one when it needs renewing.

Although I was planning to do the brakes first when a bargain pops up you have to go for it.

As for Brakes I think I've decided on ECB Turbo Grooved and dimpled discs as they seem to be highly recommended on here and should work nicely with Cosworth pads and Do-luck lines.

The brakes may take even longer than planned though as another member has offered me a discount and combined postage on the Martelius exhaust so we ordered them this morning, they should be arriving within the next week or 2 and we will be fitting them ourselves hopefully :p

I have to say I have never actually been in a car before with a HKS RKS fitted, I've heard one drive past and rev stationary and seen plenty of videos. When I took the car out earlier after fitting it, I let her warm up fully before touching the accelerator, as soon as I pulled onto the carriageway and hit WOT my God... the noise is just amazing so much louder than I could of imagined and the note suits the car perfectly imo. Massive smiles for ear to ear on both our faces for the entire journey. I think its safe to say the stereo won't be used for a while.

It was a perfect fit and seemed to be real leather although I'm no expert and not normally a fan of leather but I do like this.

Got it off ebay,
eBay - The UK's Online Marketplace
Definitely massive smiles :) sooooo getting one now! X

I've been in contact with rota over the last few days about the new Gr6 wheels they have just launched in the uk. The come in Gunmetal, Silver, White and Bronze. As these have only just come out I could only find the promo pics of the gunmetal so I asked rota to send me some prices and a picture of the Bronze as I think they would look good against the black, I'm not a fan of white on black at least not on the civics anyway.

This is what they sent I have to say I'm impressed they certainly aren't cheap but are pretty much a sure purchase for the new year.

They are perfect fit for the Civic, offset is et45 so should fill the arches nicely and at 8kg a wheel should make a nice weight saving too :D

That RSK is great, glad to see you wasted no time in fitting it. My CTR feels so quiet without it!
