I know how I'd get them...but it wouldn't be technically legal. However it wouldn't be technically legal to watch them online anywhere other than the BBC website.
Their CTR is in bronze, so it will be good to see what it looks like. The guy in top gear gave it a really good write up and Stig's already had a CTR round the track earlier in the year, but this will be good as this one has been run in now I believe
I was under the impression that was the time from April when the put the Type R against the rest of the hot hatches? They put them round the track for that edition, but that was one stright off the production line, so I think it would do better now.
If it is the time from the old CTR then I would think the new one will beat that time. Even though its heavier, if anyone has watched the video of the old CTR Vs the New CTR on RedH (the honda site for the CTR) then you will have seen that the new one handles a lot better and ended up beating the old one!
As I have previously said the New CTR beat the old one on track when Honda raced them against one another. All you doubters out there get your bum to RedH.com and check it out! Granted it may be heavier than the previous model, but they still have the same 0-62 time so its not going to be slower. It also has more BHP and handles better than the old model.
You can't be a reader of Top Gear magazine or you would know that they have a Bronze CTR GT for a whole year that they are testing. So to answer your question, its a GT model
its a valid point anar - Honda are hardly going to publish a video of the old one beating the new one
(though angie is most definately not a 'Sir' :wink
I do think that there will have been enough development for the new one to be quicker though - even if it had been slower originally, as a last resort I'm sure they could have squeezed a few extra bhp out of the engine to make it quicker
But seeing as how they haven't, I'm still guessing that the uprated handling etc will be enough to offset the extra weight its carrying
Like Milano John, I too would like it to beat the Focus ST. A mate of mine was going to have one but backed out and didn't bother swapping his car at all. He still bangs on about them though, so if the new CTR is slower than the ST round the track, he'll be unbearable.
that time of 1.36 was set in the wet.
and a facelift model set a time in the dry of 1:32.8 .
i own an fn2 and its got no chance of getting near the dry time of the ep3.
I also like a few who has posted also own the new CTR.
Do you have a link for these times? Just i've checked all the mags I have (and thats a fair few) and there is nothing there and i've trawled the site and still can't find the other time you quote.
The lap times on the site are kept upto date, so seems strange that they've not changed it. Never drove the old civic but made sure the little or big 'idiot' that tried to run me off the road last night in their 55 reg ctr took the hint not to take my car on. He couldn't keep up on corners, but then its all about how you drive it
Has any one seen this on the topgear site:
"And as if burning rubber on the world's fastest luggage-loaders wasn't enough, he's also appropriated the new Honda Civic Type R for a blast on the TG test track. Off us, actually - suffice to say that TopGear.com's Type R lifer came back looking somewhat the worse for wear."
What you failed to mention is that isn't referring to The Stig taking the car round the track, but its JC taking the car out and we all know what he can be like!
He is known for handing back cars damaged, just a shame this is some poor sod's motor to drive about in for a year!
I bet they have put it round without the VSA on for a start, something I would not be doing.
Granted the car stick likes glue to most roads I have been on, but there have been a couple of occasions when I've decided to keep the speed a bit lower cause it feels a bit iffy (like it could easily go spinning over the road and thats with VSA on!)
I know my limits and if its dangerous then there is no why i'm doing it!
mate i only leave the vsa on when i'm sunday driving, when the vsa is off the fn2 is a different car feels as if its been set free.
a lot lot more rewarding to drive and actually feels as if its going fast,no computers killing the throttle when you need to keep power on and you know where the limits of the car is and not the computer.
dont like the feeling that i need to rely on the vsa to keep me on track as iyou'll never know when its on the edge where it needs to be driven.
I'm looking forward to seeing Top Gear tomorrow and can see the Typr R topping the hot hatches table. Although not as much power its handling is different class and if you're a "real driver" its so rewarding and you can get the best out of it. Stig's a real driver and he loves it! I have the new R (GT nighthawk with 19" Rage) and friends have Golf GTI and Corsa VXR...both great cars but the Honda looks, drives and feels awesome compared to them.H
I've just found the pics of your CTR, one question for you is WHY??????????????? You seem to have the decals and the Grill Badge on the car, yet you want to replace the front with that other thing!
It just seems so very wrong to me!
On another point, some idiot in a white van tried to cut me up yesterday on a road that is being resurfaced and by God I was happy that I had the VSA on cause I had to brake hard and swerve out the way of him. Unfortunatley got a chip on the wing, but would have been a lot worse I think
Civic jaso, have you really put that grill on your type R? Post a picture so we can see what it looks like fitted.
