Evening all

Got a quick question regarding insurance. Its particularly to do with the type r hence not putting this in the insurance category.

I am 24 with 6 year licence and 5yrs NCB, clean licence and only one accident listed. Accident was a couple of months ago when someone ran into the side of me, third party paid for everything so shouldnt affect insurance too much (claim only £2k ish too)

Looking at getting either a late 2008 or early 2009 Type R GT in the early spring next year. Any idea what my insurance is likely to be? Car stays on the road over night and open public car park during the day. Work as a professional and do circa 15k miles a year (need business miles too).

Cheers

Hi Nathan,

It's likely that being under 25 might make a difference for you but to give you an idea my insurace is £600 for 12 months with Admiral, 8000 miles, no business usage and car parked on the street in the city. I'm 25 with 5 yrs NCB and no accidents although a named driver has 1 fault claim (which made very little difference to the price).

There is quite a lot of variation with postcode, I would pay roughly half my current premium at my old address as there was a wider range of companies willing to cover that area.

If I was you I would be prepared to pay anything from £500-£900, why not try running a few quotes through the comparison sites and see what comes up.

I'm looking to get a Type R next year some time.

At the time I'll be 22, 2 years NCB, 2 accidents in the past 5 years for which Admiral have quoted me £1200 + £350 excess. Depends entirely upon where you live TBH mate.

Yeah I have put it through the price comparison site and came back with cheapest being £1100 ish but as soon as want to pay monthly (and I do with it being that amount) they drop the initial discount and charge silly interest so total works out more like £1400 or £1500 which is stupid.

I'm 24 and got my insurance for £650 on a 60 plate CTR. That's with 7 NCB and no accidents.

I did however catch a 12months for the price of 10 deal with Direct Line.

Little tip for monthly payments, if appropriate you can get a 12month interest free credit card - buy your policy in one lump with that and then setup a direct debit for the credit card :)

I have checked the comparison sites, that was my first port of call. I just wanted to know how much people paying generally so have something to compare it to. Cant exactly compare it to the current I pay for my diesel Ford Mondeo.
