Hi guys and girls,

I have a 2.2 type s at the minute and thinking off buying a type R. Can anyone tell me what a years road tax costs and the average mpg people are getting out there's so I can work out the running costs I will be facing?

I done the same as you mate.

Your tax will double and your mpg will half depending on your driving style.

I do roughly 250 miles a week on the M 8 and I average 34-38 mpg whereas my derv I was doing 45-55.

It's worth it though when I'm away from the motorway and on the A roads around where I stay.

Big smiles.

Thanks guys. My insurance runs out in march so I will start shopping around that time for a CTR. *** the mpg is gona be a lot less but it will be worth it as you say. What kinda power gains are you all getting with a intake system, inlet manifold and an exhaust system?

i dont know how people get so many miles to a tank in a ctr, how often do you use vtec?

I get 32 mpg since my remaps. Car is much quicker thanks to lower Vtec window.

before the map it would struggle to see 26mpg.

now i get about 300 out of a tank with a lot of cruising but still a fair amount of b road blasts.

I went from a 2.2 to a Type R and like the previous post said MPG will halve. I find the Type R not that much more expensive though. Although this is convieniently taking the cost of Type R mods out! Bringing them back in its FAR more expensive ha ha!! :D

Bear in mind to get any real benefit of the above mods you need Flashpro to get real improvements. With a map done for your mods the car will really shift (far better than stock).:)

The only performance mod i would consider is nitrous, everything else is far too overpriced and doesnt make a lot of difference imo.

Flashpro is awesom though. best mod yet.

I get that kind of mpg even with a car full of heavy stuff
I disagree, I wouldn't suggest to anyone to have nitrus! You never know the damage that stuff will do to your internals. Also mods like the Milltek exhaust, HKS racing suction kit and Flashpro (we agree here) are all top mods worth the money. Maybe not massive numbers in BHP but the sound alone is worth it.

Taking the missus out normally works for me! ;)

Mind you my trip back to TDI when I had the fuel leak in my new fuel rail I managed 48.1mpg over 39 miles (and have the pic to prove).
