Why on earth is the 2.2 Type S GT 200 quid more to insure than the 5 door? It's the same car, minus 2 doors and a few door sills.

What a joke.

This is because it is classed as a 'sportier' model, 5 doors are seen as sensibe family cars so are less likely to get abused, also the type s gt is lowered 15mm as standard compared to the 5 doors and has a wider rear track for better stability. This is all taken into account by the insurers so unfortunately for a sportier look you have to pay a higher premium, it sucks really as the engines are the same in all diesels :confused:

My 5 door cars (2 of them) were more expensive than the exact same counterpart (yes i am sad enough to check this when i insured them) i think it just depends on the model like honda or vaux etc

I once saw a £100 difference between a 3dr Mk1 Ford Focus and a 5dr Mk1 Ford Focus. Unfortunately, it's the way car insurance works. If they think a car can be considered in anyway sporty, they will hike the price up.

I recently had to do my insurance renewal. Same details, same car, same insurer, one price from comparethemarket.com (I wanted a meerkat :rolleyes:), and one price from confused.com. There was about £100 difference between the two. Needless to say, I never splashed the £100 out on the free meerkat.

In that case gentlemen I stand corrected, guess you shouldn't believe everything you read hey!? :oops:
I shall never try to compete with the diesel gods when it comes to facts again lol, by the way Coste and Relic I have been greatly inspired by both of your cars and hope I can make an equally impressive one. ;)

If this is the case how come we insure a ctr for around 10% less than a crz and its the same company (aviva)

From my one experience if working for an insurance company currently, it's more to do with the claims experience of a particular kind of vehicle......

Example to prove this would be 3 cars......

Honda Civic Type S GT 2.2 Diesel- Insurance Group 10 (old school system)
VW Golf GT Tdi 2.0 Diesel- Insurance Group 14
Audi A3 Tdi 2.0- Insurance group 11

All vehicles are 140bhp (as near to as your gonna get) 0-60 virtually all the same..... Yet the Golf and A3 are deemed more of a risk due to amount of claims, such as thefts accidents etc, insurance companies can only use statistics to calculate a premium.

So to answer the question relating to the Civic's a 3 door will be deemed in this case a higher theft risk opposed to a 5 door I supposed due to the sportier style.
