Hello all!! some of you know me but for others that dont im Guitaralmond, I like my Type S which has 18" Blade alloys. Im also a proud member of the exclusive Vivid Blue Club which concists of usually three members :). I bought my car last March and have always thought that its not had enough power. Its coming up to March again and because my current insurance company (Norwich Union becoming Aviva) wont insure me on a Type R im thinking about having one for the 8th of March. This is mainly because for insurance purposes im one year older (23), have one years more experience (3) and one years more no claims (2) on this date. Also my current policy is ending on the 7th (my birthday :))

So ok a Type R, should I get one while already owning a Type S?? Ive spoken to ABP and because I want to buy it from Crewe Honda they can tune my car in the meantime with Milltek AND a K&N kit AND FRS ready and waiting for when I pick it up in March :). I think a NHB or DBP with Rages for sure and possibly Sat Nav would be great.....

What do you Type R owners think I should do??..... I think picking up an ABP spec car even though I own a Type S already could be pretty cool :)

deffo go for the type r , you wont regret it... It took 2 years of dreaming and saving pretty pennies to get one, and now i got mine :p Seriously though , i could of went for any other car in the past 2 years which were more cost effective , cheaper , uglier :p but i held out and glad i did.

How do you feel the Milltek and FRS make the car feel?? worth it??
It depends what you want. Have you driven a Type-R yet?

I love the Milltek and I can't imagine my Type-R without it. For me, it just adds a nice deeper rumble at low revs and sounds awesome higher up the rev range, without intruding too much at motorway revs.

I haven't had the FRS done yet, but my Type-R just handles astonishingly from stock. I will get the FRS done, but only when I've got my coilovers fitted later this year.

Just make sure you've driven a Type-R before you get the Milltek fitted. You may decide that the stock noise of the Type-R is all you want! If not, you can always get it fitted later. I've seen a few sold for under £300 recently.

I think aphemia makes a lot of sense in his post. :)

The Milltek does sound great. Make sure you have driven a standard car and then ask ABP to take you out in theirs to see what the difference in noise is like, I'm sure they won't mind.

FRS does make a great handling car even better, I am really pleased I had mine done. :)

Personally I think your Type S looks great, but I can understand you wanting a Type R, so if you want one and you can afford it then go for it. You are only here once. :D

I'd probably get an Audi instead. Just because they are more durable. Fed up with stone chips and scratches on the paint/lacquer.
But if you're OK with crappy paintwork — go for Type R!
Honestly, I cannot stand all other cars' interior after driving my 5D. So I guess when it's time to sell my nighthawk I'll have to buy another Honda... Hope they'll be using a better paint that day!

Like others say "if you can afford it, go for it".

I would buy a standard R and upgrade the various parts after having the car a while and getting to know it, that way you would get more benefit from modding your car as you would see the differences the modifications have made to your car. I had plans to mod mine but another baby on the way has put paid to that for a year or so......maybe you shouldn't hold off modding it straight away in that case :rolleyes:

But definately go for the R you won't regret it.

Just spoken to SG Honda in Crewe and hopefully they will find me a tidy NHB or DBP with Rages :) thats what im after.... Cant wait

have you had any insurance quotes for a type r? just wondering as you live in the area as me and are around the same age, would be interested in the quotes your getting

Okay, I say go for it! But agree get the car and get mods later so you can see the progress as you go along. The Milltek is great and a must, as is FRS which transforms the car, scrap the K&N and get full FRS for the rear too.

Then save for a Hondata. Job done.

Insurance with Admiral.... (with my dad as second driver for the reduction in premiums) with exhaust & manifold mod (both inc together although I have no plans to get a manifold) plus performance air filter plus an ECU..... - £1,700 approx :)

in conclusion - Admiral
Modifications - Exhaust, Air Filter, ECU (perhaps to come later)

I also live in a poor post code - £1,700

Actually ABP reccommend the K&N although I reserve my judgement... what does everyone else think about this?? Also tdi North said to NOT get Hondata and wait until a fully mappable version comes out....

The Hondata will be upgradeable to the mappable ECU - but I guess it might not be the most economical way to do things.

However, there is no confirmed news on the mappable ECU as far as I'm aware. It might not even be 2009.

Slightly off topic but:

Can you explain how bolting on an exhaust, induction kit and doing geometry is "Tuning"?

To me tuning consists of accessing a mappable ECU and writing a suitable map to extract as much power safely from an engine to give best performance and drivability.

Regarding your question, No it's not worth taking the risk.
Get a few miles on a totally stock new car and see if there are any issues that you may need to go back to Honda with.
Playing with any of these parts you are thinking of will pretty much invalidate any warranty issue you may be likely to have in the first days of ownership.

Give it at least a few weeks and see if theer are any running/starting problems, steering issues or clunking. If you have the mods done on day 1 you will never know if its due to the mods or the original car and Honda certainly wont think its the car will they. ;)

I agree with the people who say go for it, but definitely test drive it and make sure it's the right car for you. As for mods, take your time with it as more and more stuff is coming out for it so you will have more choices

Go for it then. Hopefully all the issues that would have appeared would be sorted so start modding and enjoy.:cool:

Regarding the "Tuning" comment, I have noticed more and more "Tuners" claiming they are the biggest, best, specialists etc but when you call them up and ask what they can "Tune" for me on my car they reply.... "Well we can fit Brakes, induction kits, Exhausts....":rolleyes:
When you ask about setting your car up to run with these mods they say they can't and you need to go somewhere that knows what they are doing. That's all I meant.;)
