My Civic has bad vibrations at motorway speeds. It's not just the steering wheel, you can feel it through the whole car. I had a brake upgrade fitted around 2 weeks ago, but before then i had a slight vibration starting to doubt myself tho. The brake upgrade included calipers, discs, pads & 15mm spacers. The parts were all second hand and since fitting the vibrations are a lot worse. When braking hard at motorway speeds i will sometimes get vibrations, braking at other speeds doesn't seem to have any issue. I do get a brrrrr or durrrrrrr noise when braking hard if that makes sense, almost like rubbing.

I do have new pads and could order new discs, but don't really want to spend the money on them if they are not going to fix the issue. Any other ideas on what it could be? I have had the wheels balanced and swapped around, but doesn't make any difference. My thinking is either the discs are slightly warped causing the issue or something driveshaft related maybe?

Are your alloys still round? - no joke with the state of the roads.

Do any of the tyres have any bulges or wobbles?

Are all your bushes, tie rods all in good nick?

Yes, driveshaft or even DMF. My car initially had a very slight vibration when cruising but was barely noticeable.. until i changed the flywheel.

Continue investigating the cheap bits, hopefully something will jump out at you!

I wondered how long it would take for someone to mention DMF, it better not be that otherwise i'm going to be really upset. I haven't really had much of a chance to look at the car yet.

Do you think it's worth replacing the discs to see if that resolves it?

Yes replace the discs or take it to a garage who can do a FREE brake check they usually check for warped discs too...? I had this problem with my old E36 BMW turned out I had a seized caliper so going over 30mph for any longer than 25mins made the steering wheel shaking and wobble which warped my discs in the end found it funny how it did that till I got the bill .

Fingers crossed that your DMF is okay, for reference mine was within Honda specs but vibes could still be felt.

You can pop the disks off and check they are straight, before buying replacements.

Also check their mounting surfaces are clean and true. Same for the wheels.

I might buy a set of discs and if don't end up using them send them back, but at least i will have them handy just in case.

The calipers are second hand but don't think they are sticky or anything again will have to double check it all over the weekend and see what i can find.

Ruling out clutch/dmf issues and sticky calipers. Just went for a drive and temps seem the same on both sides and as the vibration isn't rpm dependant it shouldn't be clutch related. When you get to 40/50 you can start hearing the almost stone in the tyre noise then get to 70 and vibrations start. Got some new discs in case I need them, guess not much else i can check until weekend and get the wheels off.

When you turn right you can here the the brakes squeak as the wheel rotates.

So just had the car up on stands with the wheel on I grabbed the wheel 9 and 3 couldn't feel play, 12 and 6 seemed fine. When rotate the wheel you can hear just the pad against the disk once a rotation kinda thing. Wheel off shock and spring are fine. Doesn't look like there is anything suspension related. Rotate the driveshaft back and forth and can feel play at the bearing carrier. I can give it a pull upwards and there is movement. I do hear knocking but it's in the gearbox. Other side driveshaft seems to be similar. So haven't fitted new discs or pads and just left it for now. Wheel seems straight and no buckles or weird tyre shapes. I can only imagine its driveshaft or gearbox bearings as it has to be something that rotates.

Any ideas would be great and garage recommendations in herts, beds, bucks areas. Dont mind travelling an hour or so for a good place. Not sure if I would got TDI tho.
