No it is not a true VTEC but Honda still calls it a Turbo VTEC engine and there is a label on the top of the engine saying Turbo VTEC even though it is only a dual VTC engine.
Interesting read. Honda trying to get me out of my diesel and into petrol but even short trips in these petrol engines could be a problem regarding oil dilution and carbon build up on the valves over time. Oil dilution can increase wear and tear and carbon build up possibly not appearing until 50-60k and more likely well after your warranty expires. If you use your petrol for local journeys it may be a good idea to drop oil twice a year especially if you intend to keep the car a long time.
The CVT version might be a better choice with its high revs on acceleration helping to keep valves healthier and warming engine up quicker? helping to reduce oil dilution.
Only time will tell. 16 mile a good run but could take 5 - 10 mile to warm up in cold weather. A good 30 mile run now and again wouldn't do any harm.
