Well its time to say goodbye..

I have been thinking of leaving the forum due to the lack of "proper" informative posts nowadays... all the good knowledgable people leaving or posting less and less... or in-fact getting banned because the mods dont agree with him.

I think this forum wont last much longer.. it will soon be nothing more than the other forums. Its a shame as I love this site (well use to) and the people I have meet are great however the way this forum is run is just not for me.

Its currupt (I'll keep my reasons for thinking this to myself) un fair and the mods only agree to act on that what they care about. There are so many conflicting rules and grey areas... too much political correctness and damn right stupidity.

I would like to thank everyone who I have ever thanked/have helped me and even those who without knowing have given inspirations!

I really hope this forum turns around but its digging itself deeper and deeper and I have had enough.

Fairwell!

Sorry to see you go, but is it me, or is everone taking all this a bit too seriously? It's a forum. (not a personal jab, by the way; just an observation).

People are always going to have opinions, especially on the internet. New people enter, and that always plays havoc with the older foundations. You just have to go with the flow. If people are really bad eggs, you have to trust that they will be removed - and from what I've seen, they have been.

This time I shall explain the details in full.

As we know, quite a lot of people have made comment that the polite and friendly air of the forum has been slightly lost recently - so we are on a mission to return it to what it was.

If someone is impolite, or plain nasty, then they get a warning. If they ignore the warning, then they are removed.

Onweed made a couple of impolite comments to people here. They were:

onweed said:
Now get out of my thread please!
and

onweed said:
Same applies to you!
He then added the red text you see in the first post.

We decided to not infract, but just send a quick PM:

Dimplyred said:
Hi. I noticed this post earlier.

I would like to think this was said in jest but I'm sure you'll agree it could easily be taken the wrong way.

The two members you replied to posted thinking they were being helpful. Obviously this was not the information you were hoping for. I'm sure you are aware of the recent changes to the forum rules and anything which "spoils the atmosphere or tone of the forum will generate one warning and then a ban."

I'd just like to suggest you read back your replies in the future before submitting them and have a think how they could be received.

Regards, DR.

I thought this was entirely fair.

Unfortunately, the message didn't get through. Here is the reply:

onweed said:
Hello dimply,

I said "please" after my request. Their post about "mugen fake" etc can be understood just as wrongly as my post.

I suggest you read their posts first before pointing the finger at me as I believe "off topic" posts are against the forum rules aswell!

If you feel my reply to your pm is bad in anyway then please feel free to ban me as honestly this "political correctness" the forum is going through is just as bad as the crisis going on in the uk. If you honestly feel me requesting people to take their off replies elsewhere can be understood wrongly... then please ban me!
So, onweed believed that he was entitled to talk to people like that, and he wasn't going to accept differently.

He went on to say:

onweed said:
Fair treament I know is not a forum rule however I firmly believe it should be a moral people should posess. Why give me a warning when I kindly ( hence the "please") ask people to leave my thread alone when I was obviously atagonised by people posting off topic posts? Dont be so quick to point the finger!

Thats all I'm saying.... I will take your original PM as a verbal warning and will leave it that.
Seeing that the message was clearly not getting through, we just decided to formalise it as an infraction (so that will be the one warning). We thought that that would allow us to move on, and onweed would not be so impolite.

Here is the infraction:

Post: Bonnet Scoop (custom)
User: onweed
Infraction: Being impolite or antagonistic
Points: 6

Administrative Note:
Message to User:
Despite the PMs asking you to keep your tone civil and polite, you do not consider that there is a problem with:

Now get out of my thread please!
and

Same applies to you!
Telling people to "get out of my thread" is not conducive to upholding the pleasant tone of the forum, it is not polite (regardless of the platitude), and it is against the rules.

As a thread starter, you have no right to dictate who can post what in the thread that you started, subject to the posts being in accordance with the rules. In your words:

Its a public forum and thats exactly why I have the right to post what I want aslong as it doesnt break any rules, which this doesnt.
We tried to address this with a quiet PM, but your response to DR was that you would rather be banned than follow the request.

If you feel my reply to your pm is bad in anyway then please feel free to ban me as honestly this "political correctness" the forum is going through is just as bad as the crisis going on in the uk. If you honestly feel me requesting people to take their off replies elsewhere can be understood wrongly... then please ban me!
I'll ask once again, please follow the rules - all that we ask is for politeness.
I then received the following PM from onweed:

onweed said:
How about fair treatment? I post a serious thread asking opinions and ideas on a subject and the first 2 post are both unhelpful... in my eyes antagonising and off topic yet they get away with it?

I will save you the trouble of banning me as I am leaving the forum. Loxy was right... this forum is going down the drain!...
Clearly the message was not getting through, despite our best efforts. Onweed does have form, he fought and fought me over the Mugen counterfeit issue, even stating that he did not believe me when I said I had an email from Mugen explaining how seriously they took the issue (the one later published).

In keeping with our previous commitment, we will continue to work to make the forum the civil and friendly place it always has been. We did say there would be casualties (those who are just not interested in this policy) and there goes another.

The clarity helps and is much better at allowing people to make their own opinions on how things are policed rather than just seeing one side.

Well done Pottsy, more of the same please :D

I think I shall do this more often. It pains me no end to ban a user, I really hate it. But sometimes it has to be done to achieve the overall goal of making the forum good for the vast majority.

One thing I forgot to say - the above infraction was onweed's fourth.

What I will say here is that from my point of view this forum has gone down hill over the last year or so and now seem to generate some of the spam / junk or badly worded posts and atmosphere that you find on CTRO and for me this is a shame but then again as robbo pointed out these cars are getting cheaper and then attracting a different type of owner.

I am sorry onweed feels this way and with the above comments I don't mean to offend anyone one but in my opinion I think Pottsy is correct to clamp down of this type of behaviour:worms:

Loxy leaving this forum wasn't down to the mods like he's insinuated. Its a subject that should've stayed buried for all concerned. The only way forward is to stick together and cut out the backstabbing and bitterness of what's gone on before.
Using loxy circumstances shouldn't be a precident used to finger point the mods. I think everyone has a part to play in making all this work. We are all responsible in making sure this forum ticks over correctly don't you think ??

One of the important things to look at is the number of supporters who still frequent here, even though they no longer own their Civic / Honda.

In my case it is because of the banter and general information which is so useful no matter which car we may drive.

Have things gone down hill recently - er no, more like a small stretch of speed humps, but this still is the best car forum on the 'tinternet!!!

The mods, and Pottsy, get stick for being both too strict but not clamping down enough, a no win situation.

No mods / Pottsy - no forum, and they have my thanks and appreciation.

Onweed asks on facebook:

Laura... he is contradicting himself. The forum is becomming too "correct". He punished me although those who broke the rules first were left alone... justice... something that forum does not pocess!
I'll answer here.

The other two posts were on-topic (they were about a bonnet). Even if they were off-topic, then that (if you look) is not against the forum rules. If it was, we'd all be banned.

Off-topic posts often get split into a new thread - purely because it makes more sense to both the original thread and the new thread.

So the other two posts were not against the rules and they were not antagonistic.

I may be wrong but if I remember it right, wasnt the first post a suggestion to buy a fake mugen product? I think onweed saw that as a post that was purpously made to wind him up.

Thats how I took it anyway. Is that not a form of trolling?

The mods do a great job... This place is so well moderated, it's a pleasure to be a part of this community - and is the reason I still post here despite not having owned an FN2 for over 2.5 years.

A handful of chumps are making it difficult for others and the moderators; when they really should appreciate the quality of this forum - I'm a member of forums were some of the posting is cringeworthy and how it escapes moderation is baffling. Posts that push the boundaries on antagonism, serious things like racism, political views, etc. Etc. Yet pass without a hint of moderation.

Should exercise a bit of gratitude and keep this place mature; it's been so, for so long - don't let yourself and the forum down.

I'm no forum-patriot with loyalties to any one member or forum. I use 'em but don't abuse 'em - and everyone loves me as a result :D Be like me!

It might be, but it might not. So often posts might be something, or they might be something else. We took it that because onweed was so against my stopping the promotion of Mugen fakes (because, he claimed, Mugen don't care) the comment by f.ss.t was in fact a pro-onweed joke.

If it was a troll, it wasn't a very good one! Remember, the big red comment in the first post was added after the posts by f.ss.t and GA.

Either way, all that thread elicited was a PM. The increasing possibilities we have are:

  • Discuss in mods forum and do nothing
  • PM
  • Friendly reminder
  • Infraction
  • Ban

It was onweed's reaction to the PM which created the infraction, and his response to the infraction which caused the ban.

In my experience, if people take on board the nudge, then things work out well. If they argue with the rules/mods, then the end result is always the same, only the time taken to get there varies.
