It's not usually a problem area with K20 unlike other engines, usually german. Chain and tensioner is a different story.

Yeah agree I've spoken to a few tuners who told me not to bother with water pump as not an issue

Timing chain kit over 100k not a bad shout plus all new fluids won't go a miss

A mate of mine has a garage who I have been using for past 12 or so years, this is the only person I trust working on my cars. (no short cuts I'm very strict on maintenance)

Lots of tdi North tuned ep3s around bradford/Leeds area, most have rotten only a few seen now and then.

Hello has anyone changed their waterpump on fn2 as a precaution on any cars over 100k?
I have almost 200K and have never touched the water pump. These cars have timing CHAINS and not belts. Belts break much more often. Then it makes sense to change the water pump because it’s labor intensive and almost the same labor for both parts. But if it’s not giving you trouble, I would leave it alone. Why pay all that labor cost for nothing. You may not even have the car when (or if) the water pump breaks.

I believe on the MK8 Civic the water pump can be removed without the need of getting to the chain it can be accessed via the pulleys someone correct me if I'm wrong....

However that being said if I was going forced induction then I would change the pump the same time as the chain as a precautionary measure

When I spoke to Stevie at grinspeed he told me his only ever had to replace a water pump once and that was a car north of 180k
