Weird paint problem

I finished work today, parked the car, and as I walked to the house I glanced over my shoulder and noticed what appeared to be sand, dust, or something similar on the A-pillar. I went back and it turns out the paint's coming off, on both sides.

Now I may not be the most observant type, but I'm thinking surely I'd have noticed this if it happened gradually over a longer period? So my first thought is that this is the result of something sudden; i.e. it's happened in the last day or so. Maybe I've driven under or through something, or some kind of corrosive fluid has been splashed on the front glass somehow? The trouble is I can't think of anywhere I've been or anything that happened to cause this.

However, I wanted to check on here. Has this kind of thing ever been reported by anyone else? Is paint degradation round the windscreen a known issue with 9G cars? The rest of the bodywork looks ok.

Had a new screen fitted recently?

Been a bit fierce with the jet wash?

Looks too localised to be fluid related.
Your trim is a bit grey so doesn't look like you have put any treatment on that to black it up.

This is interesting as I also recently noticed the exact same happening on my 2015 Tourer and it's never had a new screen or any work in that area. Being a lighter colour it's a bit less obvious and is mostly on the nearside (see photo).

That's worrying needs attending to before rust sets in.

I've just checked the brown spot highlighted in my photo and it's dirt luckily, so the primer is doing it's job. :)

Time to talk to Honda about paintwork warranties?

Very odd. I can't even guess what would cause that.

Mine is 8 years old so I think that has long since expired unfortunately.
Well, thank you all for the replies. Bizarrely, I'm almost relieved to see other folk suffering the same issue, since part of me had been wondering if it was malicious damage. Who would do it? When? How? Why? Turns out it does seem to just be a quality control failure on Honda's part.

I suppose I should look into it. Mechanically the car's been incredibly durable, so I'd hate to have some piddling corrosion give me trouble.

@Wilmo, I did wonder about the jetwash thing. My girlfriend bought a high pressure washer recently and used it to clean the windows on my car while she was doing her own. However, she's a bit of an tree-hugging eco-warrior type at times, so I'm almost positive she only used water; not even any washing up liquid.
A pressure washer can be dangerous if not used properly.

If she used a patio turbo lance too close then that would do it. I only use a variable lance set to a wide spray pattern and never closer than about 18".

I think @Kremmen has hit the nail on the head

Doesn't help Honda's paint isn't exactly top notch either ive found.
I guess there's one way to solve the mystery for sure. The next time she brings out the jetwash I'll ask her to try and remove more paint.

Will report back in due course...
I have a friend who's jazz is doing exactly the same around windscreen he blames pressure wash

Mine is a black car & is painted all the way to the rubber seal by the plastic trim visible in the pics above (and presumably under it) now showing what I imagine is grey primer where the black has flaked off. What colour is yours Scaramanga?
My car is white
So is my mates jazz but his trim/ windscreen pillers are also painted white
Ill take another look at mine see if the back is car body or a piece of trim
I’ve got the exact same issue. Posted about it about a year ago I reckon. Consensus was a windscreen replacement some time in the past. I took it to a paint shop to see if they do anything, and was told they’d have to do the pillar from the base near the engine bay all the way to the tailgate to get it matched. I didn’t think it was worth it so just used a touch up pen. But, it has got worse so I lm sure it’s not from a new screen.

The guy in the shop did say that they’re dipped in primer so very unlikely to rust.
