It would seem i have bought a car with no rubber seal on the tailgate. Fortunately, it doesn't leak, but it does mean that water isn't channelled and as such, drips all over my head if i lift the tailgate in the wet.

I've found people selling rubber tailgate seals but most appear to be from the car side - as in, the seal that runs around the opening on the car, rather than around the lift up tailgate. Does anybody know a honda part number?

I imagine it's expensive from honda. There are universal rubber seals on ebay etc which look promising and can be ordered by the meter (like this - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221048328968?clk_rvr_id=1494192107791&rmvSB=true), but i have no idea how much i need! It looks as though it should stop where the bodywork becomes the window, only lining the bottom half of the tailgate, but that also seems a little wierd.

Could anyone please show/tell me what theirs looks like, and how far round it goes? Bonus points if you can show me the profile of the rubber.

there is no seal on the tailgate itself the rubber seal is on the car which the tailgate closes on
Hmmm... So nothing at all?

I have this (pictured), every time I open the tailgate after rain, it drips heavily from 5-6 random spots along that ridge... There's an odd looking lip all around it (circled in red)... Surely that can't be how Honda meant it to be?

it looks the same as mine
either we are both missing a rubber seal or that's the way honda made them

thinking about it i can't remember seeing a rubber seal on the actual tailgate of any car it's always been on the car itself

Not just when it's raining. Your gonna get wet after washing car when you lift it
I find part lifting to let most of water to escape before fully opening helps. It won't stop it but it will reduce the chance of a cold one down your neck.
The seal is actually sat around the lip of the boot. If you wax your motor make sure you dry this off first or you'll suffer the dreaded water runs all over your clean waxed paintwork when you open it.
