Hi, I have just fit a magnex exhaust (cat back) to my FN2 type R, I was wondering what's the way to go with the air filter, I dont want nothing to expencive, up to about £200. or should i stick with a quality panel filter.

don't know much about them too be honest

pipercross, hks and k&n have panel filters available for the FN2

although i'm a firm believer of you get what you pay for, and at 50 quid i doubt they would really do anything on a N/A car

save your change for a beer

Get a new Honda one!

I have read elsewhere that someone has tried them all and the only one with gains and not drops in BHP is Gruppe M, the rest give noise and reduced performance.

Save your money and get a Hondata ECU when you can.

Ill be honest, im not looking to throw to much money at this car, I Intend on getting a Evo 10 next spring so I was just trying to let the car breath a little better. with the car revving so high I would imagine there would be a large volume of air getting sucked in and the standard filters usually a little restrictive, but if the standard one is as good as it gets without spending over £600 then ill leave it.

If you planning on going the evo route, i would darn sure give up on the FN2 tuning!

I have read on many forums and reviews about induction kits around the sub 200 price range and the only one that seems to provide what you are looking for at that price range would be the K&N apollo kit provided by ABP. This is a closed induction kit so you will not suffer the same heatsoak/flatspot problems as some of the other kits (AEM,Pipercross,Powertec) and there are slight gains of around 5-7 BHP. The K&N site states that 15BHP can be gained but not sure how accurate that is.

I have only heard good reviews about this kit and it has only recently been released. Contact Dave from ABP he will be able to give you some more info and there are some useful reviews on the civictype-r website.

Thanks very much, Ill look in to the K&N, I think its more of a car personalisation as much as anything, I have a set of osram bulbs on order, got my Magnex exhaust on then get a filter on it and ill be sorted.

As for the evo, I had a Evo 6 for a few years, it was a fantastic car, I sold it to buy an S2 160 elise, Big mistake !

But now I have stopped motorbike racing its supprising how much money you have left in the pocket, so hopefully get the Evo 10 in spring.

I've got a HKS panel filter and I guess it improves airflow at 30 quid you cant go wrong. I dont think you will loose bhp as someone did state, as you are using the same ome airbox :confused:.
Well as the standard airfilter is made of thick cardboard I guess the airflow is a bit restricted and if you go for aftermarket one it would breath a bit better because it be made of another material.
Overall I dont think a airfilter wheather it be a cheap one or a expensive one do much for any car.

Does anyone know exactly how much fellable power you loose from a AEM filter ? Just need to hear that induction noise !!!! :p

Dont think you loose too much.....get you car dyno'd before and after the aem. Speculation is cheap.

Made my mind up.

well I have made my mind up, Im just going to get a better quality panel filter and leave the standard airbox in it.
