What engine do you have?

Are you sure it is not just condensation (quite normal when an engine is cold).

If it really is smoke then there's a possibility it is coolant getting into the combustion chambers.

Any other symptoms?

Now we know it's a diesel that will help with remote diagnosis.

There's a chance that unburned diesel is somehow getting through to the exhaust. Could be an injector over fuelling.

Hopefully Jon_G will be along soon. He's the guru when it comes to this engine.

Mine did that and I never got to the bottom of it.

I did a leak back test and found some minor discrepancies. A kit isn't expensive and would be a good test.

An injection specialists had it overnight and as it ran so we otherwise he didn't see the need to spend cash on it. His recommendation was to monitor until it got worse.

Popping injectors isnt easy as they can break which can then become a costly repair.

I believe the chap that bought my car did a Terraclean and that sorted the smokey cold starts.

Oh and how's your fuel consumption?

Saw a car yesterday, only 2yrs old & it was bellowing out white & blue smoke, the driver didn't seem at all bothered, not sure if he even knew there was a problem, all I seen was pound signs

If it's not at that stage I wouldn't worry

Smoke on startup is normally the Valve stem oil seals? don't know if this would be appropriate to the 2.2?

Didn't experience it on mine and when I let her go she had over 140k on the clock.
