I think LEDs are a fantastic technology. However, as discussed in this thread, retrofitting them can present challenges and give sub optimal results for both the driver of the car they are installed on and the drivers of oncoming vehicles.

My last HID bulbs lasted for the entire length of my ownership (almost 4 years). My wife's are coming upto 4 years old too and my best mate has had his for 6 years. Bulb life of HIDs don't need to bought into the equation proving you get decent ones (ceramic base).

My civic has had H7r bulbs fitted now since April when I got the car. They should last the same amount of time as regular HID H7 bulbs.

Thanks for the reply folks.
I'm still undecided whether to take the step to LED?
I originally changed my H7 & H1 to Night Breakers, then changed H7 to 5000k HIDs.
The H7 kit I bought seemed like a step back compared to the Night Breakers but the colour is much whiter.
Wouldn't mind buying the LED kit if they're worth the cash but would regret it if they turn out to be same or worse than HID.

I will give the car a clean tomorrow and take some pictures for you I have done a full led kit conversion they are brilliant but the cut off line is not so good if the led kit was in a projector type headlight they would be so much better

I've got leds in my main beam, not as bright as halogen, as they're only rated at 20w, but a lot wider spread of light. Tried them in dip and scatter was terrible. Think the problem is the size of the light emitter been too big.

Are you taking about a conversion kit with ballasts or just straight LED bulbs?

There is a huge difference.

There is a small box in the wiring which I presume is the driver/ballast. Picture enclosed not very good.

Out of curiosity could someone post a picture of the headlight lense of a civic fitted with OEM HIDs from factory, wouldn't mind seeing the difference.

Cheers.

no, it has LOWER shield , different reflector design, different reflectors substance, and windscreen, because of different UV RADIATION, it has auto level adjuster and washing....

From Jan 2012

Headlight requirements are updated to take account of the particular characteristics of High Intensity Discharge (HID) lamps.

HID headlights can cause dazzle if they are dirty or aimed too high so car manufacturers must fit headlamp cleaning and levelling systems. A car will fail if a mandatory headlamp cleaning or levelling system is missing, doesn't work or is obviously defective.

Vehicles fitted with aftermarket HID systems must also be fitted with properly working washer and levelling systems.

1: there is no need to bypass the swear filter dude.
2: the prespex lenses are the same as both have the same markings and mention H7 and D2R on them.
3: Since the 8th gen FK/FN civic was from 2006 to 2011 that new law from 2012 does not apply, it does on the 9th gen
4: The civics that have HIDs from the factory have washers installed and are auto leveling.
5: Do you even own a civic hatch or have ever owned one to know aspects about it?
6: here is a picture of the xenon headlight unit from the FK/FN civic to show the glare shield.

5: yes i do, and playing with bulbs, tested h7r hid good ones, its light output are glare, tested lots of led's , its worst then proper hologen, now using philips white vision hologens, friend has civic with oem HID, there is no compere vs aftermarket HID's in glare and cut off, and light distribution. I looked close to oem hid, its completely different housing of bulb, it has special lower shield, different shape of reflector etc.....

my thoughts of the Philips Lumileds 4000lm kit

well! i finally got one fitted just in case anyone has any doubts. One phillips lumileds fitted for comparison with the Osram night breakers unlimited.
Fitting is nice and easy, just unscrew the black heat sink, clip the h7 body in place. Screw the heat sink back on and connect the wires up. I also used Velcro to secure the box to the cap, tight but all in.
The results speak for themselves within the photos, one of my main concerns was glare. I can tell you that i had nothing to worry about with these.
If i do land up with heat spot burning, well that will give me the perfect excuse to renew my headlamps as they are showing signs of all the motorway usage.
But when looking at the design and distance from the lens i can't see this being a problem.

I take it the led is the one in the right hand drivers side headlight... As the poor distribution and scatter above the cut off is clearly noticeable in the pictures against the fence... To the right and above the main ball of light and above the extended cut off of the left hand light...

You can even see the glare it in the picture of the front of the car.

I don't think I'd be happy with that cut off and its reinforced my views of these from previous threads...

Sorry - these are not for me and I wouldn't be recommending them!

They look fantastic, consistent with our test cars, very good cutoff for a reflector housing and on our MOT bay meets the light pattern test with no problems. Absolutely no glare on the road and no flashes from oncoming traffic of course, we have been running these on test for nearly 1 month now.

May just be the photos and the different colour temperature, but I am inclined to agree with this.

Would you be able to post similar photos, but with the lights swapped round, and another set with both LED lights installed?
