As the title suggest really, filled up on Friday and took these pictures as I was fairly surprised:

430 miles to a tank (When I fill up the reading has even shown 550 miles to a tank before.

42mpg for this tank and:

37mpg over 2,700 miles. Not bad for a 2.0ltr Hot Hatch capable of a 6.5 0-60 huh?

Anyway my point is this – I bought the Civic last November and in December I got a new job; however I’m now doing a lot more miles than when I first bought the CTR. I do roughly 70 miles a day so I’m using a tank a week in this thing at about £60/tank give or take a few quid ;-)

Does anyone know if I’d get a lot more miles from something like a CR-Z/Insight or even go Diesel? Will the running costs for these cars outweigh the fun factor of driving the CTR? What’s everyone’s thoughts on this, the CTR has been no slouch for a Hot Hatch in the fuel economy stakes, but would a CR-Z be the perfect compromise vehicle?

That's very impressive. I must drive my 1.8 like it's stolen, then, because best I've managed is 330 miles to a tank

That's 362 miles of your life you won't get back ;)
Don't I know it lol.

I don't have a choice with my driving style people, I live in Newcastle and work in Darlington. If I used VTEC all the time I'd get 50 miles to a tank. I get a lot of angry drivers as to get that fuel economy I sit at 55mpg in 6th there and back.

So, in the CR-Z would I get many more miles to a tank? I do about 350 miles a week so for it to be worth it I'd need to get a lot more miles out of a tank, especially with a diesel to offset the higher cost anyway.

Anyone any thoughts on which car? Or does everyone just want to comment on how boring my commute is lol?

I think thats excellent MPG and you get the option to play at your lesiure too.
I dont see why you should move to something else TBH

Have a word with ashrage ;)
You should try the flashpro and lean out the mix as much as possible..... as the FN2 runs so rich anyway ???
Going from 11:1 to 12:1 will gove you 10% more mpg

Wow, a helPful comment. Cheers for that. Like I said I am really enjoying the CTR, it's an upgrade from my old DC2, just spending £260 a month on fuel alone seems crazy no?

I might look into the Flashpro, s'pose after a while it'll pay for itself, that's what I'll tell the missus anyway lol.

Oh and diesel lovers, calm down - no ones going after your precious mpg argument, diesels rule in that regard :)

Cheers Henbhry, with that many miles done how many more miles did you get to a tank? With the 2.2 sitting at 55mph for 70miles a day do you think 600-700 miles to a tank is poss??

Let you into a secret as well... if you follow the traffic in a diesel and sit in the fast lane.... you only get 42-44mpg ;)
To get real high figures... you have to drive like you did and avoid touching the throttle.
So you aint that far off.

There has been one or two that have hit 700 to the tank.
Thats with overinflated tyres... and probably flat roads everywhere.
Not in the UK that I recall.
I think 60-62mpg is the best you can get in the UK.
But then if you used all 50 litres or 11 gallons = 682 miles.
Most will fill at the fuel light.. so 45 litres or 10 gallons = 620 miles
