I've read about voltage spikes destroying the ECU which are reported to be caused by the wipers being frozen to the screen. Seeing that a bad winter has been forecast I thought it'd be a good idea to change the relay for the later version.

Does anyone know the exact part number that needs to be bought and where it is installed in the car?

Cheers...

A better bet is not to use auto on the wipers.
Then defrost/scrape the glass as usual.

I'm aware of that but it's my wife that drives the civic and I'd like to put in a safety net in case she leaves the auto function on during the winter.

Has mine got the new relay? 59 plate??
I believe it only affects 06/07 cars.

If someone knows what needs to be swapped out I'd be very grateful for the info..

Thank you. I should have said that I've read all the threads and it's not clear which relay needs to bought - there seems to be confusion over petrol and diesel relays (mine is the diesel) and Gordon's Honda didn't reply to that first thread you linked to.

Is this something that is easily replaceable, or is it one for a dealer?
