Hi guys,

Having just bought a 57 plate 1.8 Civic EX, I am new to this forum, and I have an immediate question if I may.

I have read the threads regarding installation of USB and AUX capability, and it seems the XCarLink is the best option for the Civic.

However, my question is, could we not replace the CD player (mine is in the glove compartment) with the Xcarlink, and use the CD selection to play music via the USB or AUX port?

I know this may be a silly question, but wondering if anyone knows......

Cheers
Phil

If you have the CD changer, then yes. I believe you can't have a CD changer AND the xcarlink anyway, because the xcarlink works by fooling the HU into thinking it is a CD changer itself.

Should be able to use both if you get a 'Y' splitter cable. Will still need plugging directly into the back of the stereo though as the xcarlink has a male connector on it.

Guys, thanks for the replies.

Bog, erm, yeah....I, erm, didn't realise :) I obviously need to read the manual more!! The car is stacked with so many functions, it's gonna take me a while to get through them all.....

Anyway, basically, I am unlikely to ever use the CD player, so am just looking at an easier way of installing the xcarlink other than removing all the panels and using a y cable.

As far as I know I dont think there is any other way around this. To install any of the aux-in devices you need to get to the back of the cd player.

maybe FM transmitters you could avoid doing this, but the quality wont be too great with that,

To install an AUX unit is one of the easiest mods you can do. I have a Dension 300, pretty similar to the xCarlink, plays music from my iPod, controlled via Steering buttons too and has a 3.5mm jack for other sound input.

Don't go for FM transmitters.
