Honda has recently laid out its ambitious plans for a new range of hybrid vehicles over the next few years. Of this bunch, one of the most intriguing prospects is the small hybrid sports car that is said to be based largely on the CR-Z concept from the last Tokyo Motor Show.
In the latest issue of its print magazine, Autocar is reporting that the CR-Z hybrid will share a platform with the slightly larger, Prius-fighting, dedicated hybrid model from Honda, though it should have a more powerful version of the i-VTEC four-cylinder. In addition to a beefier version of the IMA hybrid assist, the CR-Z coupe could see a boost in engine capacity from the expected 1.4-liters up to 1.6-liters.
The sub-2.0-liter displacement may still not sound like much, but the package would seem to have the potential to be a great balance between great economy figures and a sporting character, especially if Honda can keep the weight down.
