Main beam adjustment

I've fitted some nightbreakers for my main beams so I have a fresh set in for winter but the beam seems to be too low. I have HID headlamps so the lights are plenty bright enough so I want the mains lighting up above where they cut off like they did before. Is there an adjustment I can make here! My main beams at the moment offer no benift. Both bulbs seem to be seated perfectly etc

The headlamp aim is probably too low (mine were woeful when I picked it up and had supposedly been adjusted correctly!).

The HID's are self levelling but the basic setting can be adjusted via a set of screws on the headlight unit itself, after which the self levelling will do it's job.

As a start I'd park your car facing a wall, maybe 5 yards off it in the dark, turn on the ignition and lights and then open the boot and stand in it - you should see the lights raise as you get in then re-lower as the self adjusters work. Then get out and check the reverse is happening. If it is then the adjusters should be working OK so then you only need to change the basic setting.

Open the bonnet and on the top of each headlight you should see a couple of white allen head screws facing upwards. One does horizontal and one vertical but the are clearly marked on the slam panel as U D (up down) and L R (left right). Simply tweak the U D one accordingly on both sides. Assuming your headlamps are aligned (but low) simply count the number of turns you do one and do the other the same. Do it incrementally until you get a better illumination with the beams still dipping and not blinding oncoming drivers.

This may also help you find the adjusters:

Dipped beams looked spot on but took your advise. Auto levelling was working fine but gave both sides a single turn up.

This centred the main beam perfectly and added a fair few yards to my dipped beam range. Checked and both are dead level but still not so high to affect oncoming traffic! It seems any adjustment counts double for main beams as they were on the floor previously. Was a win win in the end

Sounds like a result all round!
