My 57 plate Civic is now 3 years old, just had my 3 yr service and MOT

Service £205
MOT £ 40

2 new tires
front pads
new Wipers

Total £530 Phew i'm skint now until pat day

Anyway my point is i'm now thinking of changing my car, my courtesy car was a 10 plate 1.4s Civic apart from not being a quick as my 1.8 no real difference therefore although i love my civic really cannot see the point in getting another.

However, i did sit in a Type R whilst i was in the show room as you do and loved it, my question is will i find much difference in

1) exceleration: is it a Vtec engine therefore i will have to get the revs high before feeling the benefit.

2) Suspension: it it alot stiffer than my SE, i find mine a little harsh at times on uneven roads, speed bumps etc.

3) How is the Comfort on long journeys, the bucket seats felt fab to be honest.

Sorry if i am going over oooollldd ground yawn

Comfort on long journeys really not a problem, cost of running and possibly insurance will be the things to think carefully about!

Cheers

Both petrol and diesel type S are ~ 140bhp as standard. Type R is 198bhp.

Being VTEC, the Type R does feel very similar in terms of power characteristics to the 1.8 - there's just more of it. I drove the 1.8 before deciding on the Type R. Although in the Type-R, there's a bit more torque at low revs, you're still better off changing down to overtake and let the vtec kick in (yo), as you don't get any real power until >6000 revs which is basically what I found in my (limited) experience of the Type S petrol.

yeh thanks to other people using the vtec engine superchargers are not to hard to get hold of, id love to drop a atom engine in mine!! but like 1.8 eco

tbh id stay with what you have unless you love the civic that much get a type r but maybe not a new one that way you could spend 3k on get what feels like a new car as the the type r prices are well low and a 2,2 would cost you more to buy! could get a 1.8 type s but get a type r if you want more fun then what you have

I know how you feel about your Civic. I bought mine three years ago and it is 'due' for renewal on 1st Jan. I have my eyes on a Mk2 Audi TT or a bmw 320d M Sport around 2-3 years old.

The problem is, i cannot bear to see my Civic go. it is a 2007 Blueish Silver EX, all the toys and with xenon lights. All the Audi's and BMW's i see are missing at least one of the features i get on the standard on the EX Civic. I was very disappointed with BMW's iDrive. I am an I.T. geek and I LOVE toys.

I really don't know what to do at the moment.... Finance company want 6k to settle. Garage want to give me between 7.5k-8.5k and private sale looks around 9k-9.5k.

Closest car i have found is a 57 Audi TT with all toys but lacking Xenon for 19k.

Am I nuts for considering letting go of my Civic?

Sorry to hijack your thread, But i wanted to express my love for my little Civic.

I have a 2008 exactly like yours which will be 3 in April and understand your dilemma - I have blue leather seats which really 'make' the car and dont really want to change - a sister has a TT which is a nice car but is very low and not family friendly, and my other sister has a diesel merc 220, again nice but the cabin is a bit boring. If you change you will certainly miss the dash. The only car I'm considering is the CR-Z, saw a silver one in a car park yesterday, looked lovely, but problem is I would want the GT and the sat nav which will be too much cash new so would have to be used and I cant see many of those about for a few years so will be hanging on to mine.

My 1.8 'EX' was 3 years old last week ...

I have NO intention whatsoever of changing it ! ...

Paid some £30,000 for it (new) and have spent some £10,000 on it since (mods \ servicing \ valeting) ...

Totally flawless and 100% reliable ...

I am intrigued can you post some pictures of your sky blue seats.

What about Black & Light Gray ? ...

The 'sky blue' seats are not a bright colour - see my avatar (this is pretty accurate). Transform Leather called it that but is more like a sort of thunder cloud blue and goes very well with the civic's colour. Will put up some piccies in a bit when on my laptop.

wolfman go with your gut feeling and what you can afford i had the choice of type r or type s both same money but after speaking to the insurance i couldn't justify the cost then theres the servicing ,road tax ,sadly the type s gt i picked but i love it one day the mrs says i can have a mugen(model form lol), good luck with your choice.

Some more piccies of my seats attached. The more I think about it, the more likely it is that I will be keeping the civic for another 2 yrs or so - let's see what the 'new' one is like, or as I said above, the CR-Z. These piccies were taken before the centre consol was done, the rear seats picture gives the best colour - the others dont look quite right.

They both look pretty cool i must admit.

I am going back to keeping my car. I was very close but the stealers are talking about 7200 for mine, because "that is what they are going for on autotrader".

I am sorry, but the cheapest car on auto trader is not what i value my car. I have been so anal over keeping it pristine. I almost always putting vPower fuel in, never curbed my wheels and always looking for the eventual stone chips and touching it up.

Stealers say, regardless how well it is kept they can only sell it for the cheapest price. Pffft.

I think heart of hearts i did not want to give her up.

If you are eco style driver - 1.4 Type S

if you are NOT - CTR all the way

BUT you can do the compromise, the 2.2. version , which is slighter faster than a 1.8, but it"s more opet to tuning area unlike 1.8 .

But the sound od VTEC kick is worthy than the bigger fuel consuption, higher MOT and so on.

Sweet problems.

I love my Civ ( dispite I-shift which is solid, but not superb ), so the next car will ber the same generation, but with the tempting R on the back , mmm GT pack, milano red or CW, Injen, Flash pro, custom exhaust...ROTA wheels...my vallet will be prepaid for fuel stations every week
