There are a few other threads in other sections from people with similar issue.

I have a 2.0 CR-V from March 2013 and after 2 weeks holidays in October (car stayed in a garage), the idle stop stopped working with the battery sign showing every time.

I did a couple of trips on the highway (> 30 miles) but didn't fix it.

I have to go to my dealer on Friday to pick up my winter tyres and they will have a look.

Same problem with my Civic 1.8. Friday the dealer will replace the battery, but in my opinion there is a bug. If you disconnect the battery negative for 2-3 minutes the idle stop system will work again for some month. I've noticed that you use the car for a long trip and then you don't use the car for 3.4 days, the problem appears. It seems that the system cannot manage a full load battery.

Is this issue only affecting the petrol engines?

I don't remember reading this kind of issue from i-DTEC owners

It seems that the problem appears after the car is not used for a few days or more. Then, no matter how long you drive, the system displays low battery symbol, failing to recognize the battery charge level. Only disconnecting the battery helps.

I had the issue in the past ... after leaving the car unused for a couple of days, I had the idle stop not working (with the battery symbol showing up) for 1 or 2 days but it would resume.

Now, it's been more than 2 weeks since I'm back from holidays and it's still not working so I suspect, like you said, that it won't work until dealer does something.

Had a look at battery of my CR-V and there's no charge level indicator (red/green sign) like it was on my previous one.

I had this problem earlier when I bought 1-year old Civic in August 2014. Car was repaired in City Honda Basingstoke in September 2014. I was told the battery was replaced and the new firmware was flashed. Since the repair, the Start-stop did not work Mondays (I did not drive weekends). Honda explanation was the battery must be fully charged to have the start/stop activated. I could understand the start-stop does not work when I don't drive for two days. About 3 months later the Start-stop does not work at all. It does not matter how long I am driving, even If I do 3 hours journey (to the airport and back). My Civic (year 2013) is booked for repair at City Honda Basingstoke. I am wondering what will be their explanation at this time. They can't say now I had an old firmware, and there is no newer firmware. I did not try do reset the ECU be disconnecting the battery.

I did another observation: I connected the OBD-II scanner linked via Bluetooth to my mobile, and I logged the parameters. I noticed there is a random fault with battery charging: each time when I press the acceleration pedal then the voltage drops from 14V to 12V. the voltage goes back to 14V when I depress the acceleration pedal. Most of the time the pedal is pressed what means the battery can not be charged during a long journey. I am wondering what will happen if the battery is completely flat when I am driving 70Mph? For sure the lights will be off. Will the steering wheel and brakes work? Problem appears randomly, otherwise the battery would have already been discharged.
Example of OBD-II log is here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8OqYLZudSpPeXlIeDRNNHV4dlk/view?usp=sharing

I am driving my 2012 make civic 1.8L petrol after a good 4-5 days or so and having start stop problem. My battery is about 10 months old as I first had a problem like this then.

I have to make a 5 hour long trip before I have time to go to a dealer. Should I be worried and think about cancelling my trip?

First thing I do after start up is disable the Stop / Start. If there was a way of doing it permanently I'd do that. My worry with Stop / Start is the amount of Cycles it burdens the Engine with. I've read and heard somewhere that most Engine wear happens during start up. For what it saves I'd rather not have it.

With the stop/start cycles and engine damage...

Some of you may recall the old Magnetic advert, where the oil "clings to your engine like a magnet".. This was due to cold start's and cycles, which do cumulatively do increase wear.

So with stop/start when the engine is warm, I would think that only the start motor and battery are mainly affected.. The only other thing that it will affect that is overlooked is the life of the CAT/DPF's

If it broke, I wouldn't miss it particularly:- I'm aware of the reliablity concerns as listed above, but for me the real inconvenience is the starting delay:- I find i often end up sitting on the clutch, lest I pull to a stop and the light change just as the engine shuts off. With clutch back to the floor straight away, there is an (I Imagine) ECU Imposed delay that holds off restarting for a few moments; Enough to be awkward.

I have a petrol 2012 Civic, I do use the start-stop sometimes but not necessarily every stop, but haven't noticed this issue, even after having been away on holiday for a week. The only thing I do get occasionally is it wont kick in due to the A/C (hot car), or very occasionally if it's stopped/started many times will it not stop due to the battery, but generally it's ok.

Hi everyone, I also had the same problem of the start and stop not being available and I have already ordered the battery sensor. Does anyone know if I can change it? or do we need an update of the control unit afterwards? thanks to anyone who can answer me.
