Serious question for once: Is this limited only to the 1.5L Vtec engine, or are the chaps overseas saying it is also on the 2L engine

Last year they didn't. This year they do. Have particulate filters that is. You'll also notice that they've changed the spec with a revised lower horse power. I'm assuming the filter saps some power due to increased exhaust restrictions?

So far I've only read the oil dilution issue in relation to the new 1.5. The 2L is an older modified design.

GPF is the proper term for the particulate filter, it differs from a DPF in the fact that petrol runs much hotter burns cleaner ie less soot and they suffer far less from problems than diesels so.personally I am not worried by it.

The 2 litre is an NA engine (in the states and canada) with no turbo it is also an indirect injection engine not a direct injection like the 1.5 so therefore does not suffer from oil dilution. With regards the 2.0 litre engine in the type r as far as I am aware although I could be wrong, that is direct injection with turbo but I have not heard any reports of dilution in this engine.

Watched a few youtubes on this subject. Discussing 2018/19 models. One bloke with outside temp of 46f filmed his engine temp gauge drop when A/C switched on, after thirty minutes still not at operating temp and also complained of fuel smell in oil which got into Cabin during drive plus oil on dipstick higher than he liked. He'd taken it in to Honda who said its fine, operating as intended.

Honda are not being consistent on this issue, some parts of the world they admit the problem and fix it i.e. China and Canada with a fix also being discussed for the States. Yet in the UK my complaint was well and truly recieved with go away there is no problem, it does not exist, we have had no reports of it from dealers and we are not doing anything about it so basically go away! If I knew Honda were going to treat me like this I would have gone past my dealership and taken my money elsewhere. Whilst the car is impressive I think the engineering may not have been what it once was- just my opinion I could be wrong. The main thing that has seriously put me off buying another Honda is the customer service from Honda UK which is a shame as I am currently looking to replace my wifes Yaris and was going to buy a Jazz but after this I am looking elsewhere and Honda has gone from top to bottom of the list. Own goal scored there Honda UK !!!!

Paddy, seen that video the same guy has also posted quite a few videos about the civic including type r.

I agree with what he says, but Honda UK are still sticking their head in the sand in the face of overwhelming evidence...... its their business that has the potential to suffer...... their choice. In my opinion I think they are aware and will fix engines for cars that are now in production on the quiet, but I suspect current owners such as you and I, may and I use the word may see a fix but it will only be when they think their reputation will suffer in the UK and Europe as could cost them a fair penny to fix.

Like I said its just an opinion. I also personnaly think that the more people put pressure on Honda UK by taking the time to email in with this problem the more chance we have of gettting a fix.

Hi!
In another thread, Engine Oil- further confusion, Holland1954 wrote that he asked Honda UK what oil to use. First choice is 0W30. In the service manual, first choice is 0W20.
Interesting, could it be because of the oil dilution problem, thicker oil is better as a preliminary protective step? Most probably, a thicker oil can stand more petrol, still fulfill a strong oil film.
As far as I know, the Honda Oil is made by Mobil1. If you use Mobil1 internet guide, first choice for the 1.5 VTEC engine is 0W-30!
If you visit Castrol and use the internet guide selector for oil, Honda Civic 1.5 and 1.0 VTEC do not have any suggestion at all, you are asked to contact the dealer! All other Honda Civic engines have a suitable Castrol oil.
I get the impression that Honda is secretly changing from 0W-20 to 0W-30. Please ask next time when you change oil, what oil is used.

Pot luck then.

Thanks Honda for the great customer care, I invested my money in your product how about you invest in me by taking care of a loyal customer and fixing the mess YOU created on MY car?

I think this is a problem that's going to escalate especially when China and Canada have admitted the problem and got a supposed fix. I have an oil level just above the yellow plastic block which is well above the full level and unless Hendy Honda over filled the oil on the first service in June which I have not noticed on previous oil level checks then I have oil dilation. Am I right in thinking that a light will come on on high as well as low oil levels?:frown2:

Having watched a YouTube video on this all cars potentially suffer from this. Short stop start journeys the big culprit. A long journey should help evaporate the fuel from the oil bringing it back down normal levels. He said some cars now have a third notch on dipstick. Low, high, too high from fuel dilution.

Have any of you guys noticed hesitation at light throttle say travelling in a 30mph area after its been started first thing on a cold morning? I have this on mine not sure if its related to dilution but some internet reports suggest it could be. Oil level is fine on the dipstick so I am a little confused, not what I expected on a car thats less than 4 months old!

So just gone to check my 1.5T Sport, it had its first service in October.

Oil level is well above the plastic portion of the dipstick, and absolutely honks of petrol.

Only way to get Honda UK to start looking at it, is if we all start demanding oil changes under warranty, every time we find the oil level well above the max mark, and stinking of petrol.

I have raised the issue with Honda UK and was basically told they have not heard of the issue and deny there is anything wrong with the 1.5 engine! We all need to raise the issue and demand the same fix as they have had in China and are getting in Canada and the States oil changes will not fix the problem. Honda UK need to act before the issue causes their reputation to suffer. My car is at the dealer tommorow will keep you all posted.

What sort of journeys are you doing. Stop/start short trips? Or long hauls.

A mix of both, between Manchester and Luton, and then in and around Luton.

According to video it suggested problem with those doing short trips. Have you checked your oil for petrol smell and level after a long motorway run but before stop/start journeys.
If same then to me there is a problem.
