Why is it stranded? Does the car not restart automatically after stopping or does not cut the engine at all?

Actually it is not stranded as in it doesn't start. It starts fine, drives fine even the battery charges fine, just that the ilde start function does not work. Honda has checked everything with their fancy computer but they could not find a error code to this date, the car has been in the Service Centre for almost a month with no solution. I have told them about the battery sensor problem but none of them are listening to me. Does it really work guys? changing the battery sensor i mean?? Did your car show any error code??

I think you have the Civic Hybrid Sedan that is sold in Asia. This start stop function on the 9G is for the Euro hatch. They work differently so it may not be the battery sensor.

Those with info on any software update, please elaborate, because when I mention this to my Honda dealer, he looks at me confused... The trick for me has also been to disconnect battery for a few minutes. Annoing!

I bought a second hand 1-year-old Civic ES 1.8 (manual) end of August 2014 from City Honda in Basingstoke. Initially start-stop did not work at all. My car was about 3 weeks in the service (from 3rd till 21st September 2014), and I was told the firmware was reprogrammed, and the battery was changed. Currently the start-stop does not work randomly. Failure is observed every 3rd time on average. If the problem is observed once, it will be observed several times during the same journey. There are days when the problem is not observed. The symptoms are: after driving a longer distance (about 20 minutes) when I stop there is an 'A' symbol with a line through it and +/- battery symbol. Alternatively, the engine is switched off, but after about 2 seconds a warning is displayed ('A' and +/- symbols) and the engine starts. This happened about 4 times today. It looks like the service does not know how to troubleshoot the problem.

Over recent weeks I have found the Auto Stop/Start has not been kicking in.

Battery is fine, and have tried switching 'off' Air Con etc but still will not work!.

Visited Dealer yesterday for check (under Warranty), no problems with Battery/General Electrics etc - Was told Honda are aware of this problem and are working on it!!

Has anyone else got/had this problem and what views/ info do they have?

PERHAPS 'DAN' knows a bit more about this problem??
Problem with start-stop is still observed, even when the Honda service reprogrammed the firmware and replaced the battery in September 2014.

An example of OBD-II log (*.csv file) where the problem is observed:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8OqYLZudSpPTllQeXhEWDNlMDQ/view?usp=sharing

Problem visible in the spreadsheet rows 685 - 691 (car stopped at M3 exit 5 to A287 for 8 seconds, latitude/longitude 51.27134 -0.9617673 logged in columns W,V)
The speed is zero (column B), but the engine RPM (column H) is over 700 RPM.
The input voltage drops from 14.4V to 13.7V in first 2 seconds after stopping (column U). I am unable to explain why the voltage on the battery drops. While driving the voltage 14.4V means the battery is charged. When the car is stopped the engine is still on, so charging should be still in progress.

The voltage on the battery also drops to 13.6V during driving, see column U, rows 436-437. This may be a voltage regulator or voltage sensor problem.

Examples of such logs were sent to City Honda in Basingstoke. However, they did not try do do any troubleshooting.

OBD-II scanner used (plugged to OBD-II port):
HH Advanced Torque Android Bluetooth Car OBD2 Auto Fault Code Tester Scan Tool

TouchScan Android app was used to collect the OBD-II data via Bluetooth link.

I'm not sure about my auto-stop anymore. It really refuses to work all the time now. I don't know if it's because my air-con is always on at lowest blow setting or if it's taking issue with my MP3 player, but every time it should kick in it always says on the imid auto stop is unavailable, doesn't give a reason either.

That could be the reason. The inside temperature may to too different to the set temp and the speakers may be draining too much power so the start stop system figures if it's using too much power it will disable it.

mine's (MY14 1.6iDtec) a bit wierd to. Auto stop / start works as manual suggests it should except in this senario. When I press the windscreen mode on aircon unit aircon comes on and blower goes to 3bars, usually I switch off aircon on the on / off button and reduce fan speed to 1 bar so there is a small airflow to windscreen. In this mode the auto stop / start doesn't work and message says aircon is on when it specificaly says aircon off on the aircon control unit.

My MY14 1.6iDtec does the same. I must say if find the auto start/stop less effective in my new 1.6 compared to my MY12 1.8. The 1.8 was very quick to re-start therefore I hardly noticed the system working, but it seems slower in my 1.6... sometimes even I'm ready to go and it's still starting.

I assume the Civic has lots of logic circuits feeding it's (ECU) decision to use auto idle stop. Temperature outside, temperature inside, engine oil & coolant temperature, Battery temperature and condition, Humidity, engine loads like the demister, air conditioning, fan use, brakes (engine will not stop if foot brake on or steering loaded, charging phones, navigators and MP3's etc. This colder time of year will always be difficult for all batteries as it reduces their capacity and capability. Has anyone had the problem in the better weather as long as the AC wasn't set to 16° or low and the conditions above satisfied. The 'car' is deciding not to start because all the conditions for the stop are not met for whatever reason out of our control (except for use of loads like brake, steering, demist, heated seats etc etc.
I have a 2013 Civic 1.6 EX (25,000 miles) just had MAP sensor recall letter after it was already changed at it's second service.

Did the 1.8 petrol come with start stop? I thought only the i-DTEC was available with start stop.

It did unfortunately.
