hi

im looking for some help please. i have a 2006 honda civic and have noticed the headlights flashing brighter and dimmer when driving it seems to happen most whern hitting bumps in the road but have also noticed this happen alot when im parked and just moving my steering wheel from left to right the dimming isnt as bad as when driving but is still visible.

when investigating this more i have noticed that when turning my steering my rear lights will also dim alittle and also my internal roof lighst will also dim ( my dashboard lights seem to be unaffected )

does anyone have any idea what the problem could be?

thanks for any help

i have 1.4 2006 civic and on my car the lights will flicker every time when AC turns on and when i press brake pedal aso... the thing is-alternator cant give enough juice for all the electrics when sudden change occurs-like when i press brake pedal-then the car starts to consume more electricity, alternator adjusts itself to that in about 1 second and thats why the dimming occurs...

gary 52 yes i think they are the HID bulbs, jun761 i have checked same with no success like you.
kutsikas15 my problem isnt the same i have done what you ahve said aircon and brakes but ny lights dont dim from this.

my lights seem to dim from hitting bumps in the road and when i turn the steering wheel to full lock as i hit the full lock they will dim slightly when im driving they dim badly to the piont it looks like i am intentionally flashing the lights,

once again if anyone has any ideas it would be great

thx

Mine dims too when you overload the electrical system e.g. when you turn the steering with the lights on. I've had this on all my previous cars too, must be normal.

If you have HIDs, they should not be affected in brightness by the load on the charging circuit like Halogens are; as the bulbs' power is controlled by the ballast. Your bulb may be on the way out - has it changed colour at all?

you're forgetting I have the same problem.

sut - you're best to change them, because when they constantly flicker it just kills the HID bulbs. I'm going to buy a new set from JP soon when I have the cash.

i have not notuced any diff in colour just notice that when i hit bumps they will flash please also let me clear up when i say flash/flicker i dont mean alittle i mean alot as if im flashing my lights to let a car pull out its that sort of effect.

where will i find the ballast on my car so i can check that.

When the steering wheel is turned with the car stationary, the headlight dims "marginally", this is beacuse the PAS pump is drawing power. I haven't come across if this dimming is so severe that it appears as if the light are flashing.

Similarly when you turn on the climate control, it draws power from the electrical circuit, the interior lights dim a little if they are turned on and return to full brighness when the climate is turned off.

This I believe is normal as it happened to my previous car & also mentioned by CCC earlier in the thread.

On the older models there is a button for headlight adjustment up/down depending on the load in the boots changing the car angle.
Are your lights rising/dropping rather then dimming over the bumps ??
They may take time to get back into position if auto adjusting ?

relic no my light are not dropping and rising i hve just checked but thx for that peice of info.
when im hitting bumps my lighst are flashing as if they are going out and back, can you tell me please where i will find the ballast so i can check that please. and if anyone else has any idea what may be making this please let me know

thx

the flashing may not be flashing at all, when going over bumps the car will rise and drop suddenly giving the impression of the lights flashing. i have seen a lot of civics with broken headlamp brakets just lately allso. normaly because of small parking accidents that seamingly cause no damage. check there security. other than that there are no known problems with lights flashing hid or halogen. dimming is normal under load.
