Sat in my car for a while tonight, just about to get out and thought i'd start her up. Turned key all the way round, finger on the big red button and all i got was a constant knocking/clicking sound while my finger was pushing the start button. Airbag warning light and EPS warning lights appeared on the multi function display and various lights on the dash, ABS, airbag, VSA.. all seemingly random lights! The big circle of light on the dash along with blue speedo light flickering in time with a knocking sound from the front of the car!! Car hadnt been started for over 24hrs! I did have the key in, in order to charge my phone up whilst i was sat there, i regularly do this and have never seen this before! I dont want to admit its broke, its a Honda right?

Anyone experienced this before?

Yup definitely sounds like flat batt. You said you regularly sit in the car to charge your phone with key in, you shouldn't do this! Listening to radio, charging phone whilst engine off etc will drain your car batt a lot faster!

Thanks for the feedback, interior lights and dash etc lights up with key in still so surely its not totally flat yet?! I know its bad to do but ive been doing it for a long time  i dont know if my ICE and all the LEDs i have recently installed might not be helping though!!

No didnt touch a thing, usually i drive the car everyday and i didnt atall yesterday so i dont know if that may be the cause as if i drive it surely that would keep the battery topped up! Cars stuck at work so i think the AA will be getting called as even if i could establish how much juice was left i wouldnt have a clue how to top it back up again!!

How old is bat ?

Flat Battery for sure - more amps are required to start a car than to power some interior lights

Be sure to take the key out of the ignition before you connect it to donor cars battery!

Battery booster (if I translated it right to myself) is a little jump start portable battery with clamps so you don't need another car to jump start it. There are also rather cheap battery chargers that you plug in home power plug and connect to the battery.

Ah i know the portable battery chargers you mean, my old mans got one! One of those things you never get until you need it.. then you'll probably never need to use it again  haha

As i think i have a few bits added on the car like xcarlink, sub, LEDs etc are there anymore permenant ways to improve the battery life.. Better battery, grounding kits? As i say i know its not good to use the ciggy lighter whilst engine is off but never seen an issue before, will deffinatly be more warry of this in future though!!

Car started fine with jump leads :D

Just ordered MrJPs 25 LED sidelights so im now a little worried im asking too much of the poor civic! Is thia common when bits are added that the battery plays up.. Surely she should be able to handle some extra juice for a few lights? Battery has NUMAX written on, any knowledge of these, would a different battery be an idea worth considering? I occasionaly have to leave the civic for weeks or months at a time due to work, been fine in the past but getting nervous about the next one after this episode!!

Thanks again for all the feedback :D

Engine management, Airbag and VSA worning light on

Hello, sometimes my civic 2.2 EX wont start, I put the key turn it and before i press the red buton 3 worning light will come on, engine management, airbag and VSA, also the glow pulgs and oil ligght wont turn on in this case, the engine turns on and on as normal but it wont star. If i turn the key on and of for several times the worning light will disapear and the car will start as normal. I just came back from a garage yesterday and they have told me that i need a new alternator, but it doesnt make send a the battery shows 12.4v. Please help me, i dont want to pay ÂŁ400 for the alternator if it doesnt need to be replaced. Sorry for my poor english.

I know this sounds really basic but just make sure the battery cables are securely attatched after I fitted my head unit the battery connector was a little loose and then same thing happened for me !

The test was caried by an autorised garage, that's how i fount out about 12.4v, now if u say that it should be about 14v. do you recon that is the alternator that doesnt charge the battery as it should or the battery just wont charge as is to old. Just to mention that the battery is the original one that came with the car from Honda and i dont thing it has been change since new(5 years.)

The battery is there to start the system and power it if the rpm is too low for the alternator to work correctly.
All other times the charge should be coming from the alternator recharging the battery in the process.
Especially as more elctrical loads are added.
If your alternator isnt throwing out enough current the power has to come from elsewhere ;)
