Coolant level

Does anyone find it hard to see the water level? For some reason there is no colour in the bottle so I can't see the line where the water is. I have tried using a torch but still can't see it.

Yer sounds like weak strength anti freeze . You should be able to see coolant in both I would have thought.

Yer you could pop back and ask them to sort it for you . When you looked in radiator did it have a water colour ?

Sorry for resurrecting the thread ;) but I didn't want to create new one as I have similar question which hasn't been actually fully answered here.

I wanted to check coolant level in my Tourer and I'm not able to see if there is anything in the coolant resevoir tank.
The radiator is properly full and the coolant is blue-ish (should be original Honda coolant as the car's new).
When I took off the cap from the tank then there is a black rubber hose attached which is wet with coolant (let's say up to 10 cm / 4 inches).

So as the rubber hose is wet up to those 10 cm does it mean that coolant level is ok?
Or does it mean that it's actually too low (so the hose is wet but nothing can be seen in the tank itself) and I need to fill it with coolant?

Your coolant level should be visible within the expansion bottle but from your description of a hose attached to the cap, that sounds like you are checking the washer fluid reservoir.

After buying my second hand Civic from a Honda dealer a few months ago I also couldn't see any coolant in the bottle - I'm not sure if that's on their multi-point check list.

Anyway, the way I do it is to shine a torch down behind the right hand side of the bottle while looking from the left, then shake the car left to right, and I can normally see it moving up and down. In my case it was below minimum, so had a trip to the local dealer to get a bottle of coolant (£7.07).

I can't see the coolant level in my 2 month old sport. The expansion tank is a very thick plastic and the coolant is a very very pale blue. I siphoned some out of the radiator with a tester and it shows the correct concentration, the temperature gauge looks OK so I assume the coolant must be in the expansion tank but very difficult to see. I have checked by taking radiator cap off a couple of times with a cold engine and the level in radiator is at the top. I've tried shining a torch down the expansion tank neck but the bend you pointed out stops you seeing too far. So gave up ,no signs of overheating, must be alright ?

I had a look at mine today whilst filling up the washer bottle, and it is a useless design. Where the min and max marks are is nigh on impossible to see, and it's tricky to even get a torch down there to check.

I gave up in the end. Temp gauge is steady and the radiator seems full so I'll see if they check it when it gets its next service.

Exactly. I tried several times and I couldn't tell is there anything in the tank.

Yesterday though I was at the dealership to install mud flaps, so I asked them to check the coolant level and they said it's correct (near the max mark) ... and that I can use a torch to see that  (like I didn't try that ;)).

Anyway - as the torch didn't work for me either then at least now I can assume that when this black rubber tube is wet up to 10 cm - then it's fine.

An old thread but am and across it as have found exactly the same problem. Wife had engine overheat come up, so I’m taking a look and can’t see a level. Even filling to the top of the ‘radiator’ and the water doesn’t flow into the expansion bottle. Had the car since new and this is a surprise crappy design on the civic tourer 2016. Have driven about 100 miles now with no warning coming up and temps looking good. Getting system pressure tested tomorrow
