Electromagnetic sensor

I was thinking of fitting one of the electromagnetic rear parking sensors that are hidden behind the bumper ( dont want any holes in the bumper )
Has anyone fitted this type and if so did it work ok.

Don't use this kind of sensor. It isn't worth the money.

Since this sensor is using an electromagnetic field to notify you about anything being in your way, it can only "see" objects made of metal.

It is totally blind for non-metal objects like pets or children.

Besides, to get you a signal from this sensor, you'll need a moving object in the electromagnetic field or this field to be moving itself, because those sensors don't produce any signal when there's no movement.

Now, when does this field move?
Exactly!
When the car is moving.
But when the car is moving, it can be too late to notify you about that object and then you will hear some very ugly noise from behind. ;)

Not sure why you don't want holes in the bumper, most cars have the visible sensors and as such most people don't notice them (If they do, then the assumption is probably a higher spec car :) )

To be honest if you're not sure you can always just try them - they require no drilling etc so give them a shot. It's very easy to fit the drill-types as there are markings inside the bumper from Honda to say where to drill... but up to you!

Well, according to the following video, it can detect a chair made of plastic.

Assuming the video is no fake (I doubt that btw.), did you notice, when the alarm was starting to go off?

I don't think that's in any way close to a save distance.

What if the boot was closed?
The car would have hit the chair long before there had been any beep.

Imagine the chair was actually a wall of a similar shape... next job for the friendly guy.

From my personal point of view this is no sensor to rely on.

I've heard the ultrasonic can have blind spots. Also they don't give you coverage round the corners of the bumper.

I've bought and tried the electromagnetic ones and can say they didn't work very well on the civic.

They do detect no metal objects though.

One reason for not working so well is that the metal crash bar behind the plastic bumper is too close to the strip you fasten to the inside of the plastic bumper so it interferes with the field.

I have traditional Honda OEM sensors but I never rely on them as even they in the rain produce false readings.

Rearview/wing mirrors are more reliable ;)

I have heard that the metal of the inner bumper can affect the signal but this is cured by fitting a second strip above the first one and wiring them in parallel. Did you do this when you fitted yours.
As for mirrors they are not too good at seeing out the back window and them straight down;)

This is a confusing post

Right fitted the electromagnetic kit today and so far so good. Wrapped the metal inner bumper with duck tape ( not the silver one as it has metal in it ).
Fitted the antenna right round the corners of the bumper to give full coverage.
I will see how it goes and give an update.

Right to all the people who said don't bother, you were right.
After having it fitted for a month now I can say it is without a doubt the biggest pile of s**t I have ever bought. One false alarm after another. Detects things that are not there, don't detect things that are.
Will be getting a proper set in the new year and binning the b****y thing.
Least I only wasted 20 quid.
