they also require car to have been up to date on services by a vat registered garage.. the issue was the manifolds that crack were all welded ones from factory,, the part up date is a cast single piece manifold, if anyones car is not serviced to honda's standards as they see it they can refuse to replace manifold, in this case cheapest option is to weld it up properly like they should of done in first place, ie weld it then heat manifold up to dull red and let cool slowly, this relieves the stress in the welds. and should not crack again.
Again, interesting stuff, but this does not seem to apply in my case, they simply asked by email for car reg and mileage, they asked NOTHING about service records. I have had the car over 2 years now, never had a Honda service, just a sensor fitted. My service book shows last Honda service (by previous owner) 5 years ago. They have more or less insisted I bring it in , the "new part" (no weld suggestion) is there and ready to fit.:worms::popcorn::popcorn2:

i would ask your honda dealer the straight questions, what do i need to bring with me if anything that honda might need for this to be covered and no charge to myself.. just incase they repair it and think your going to pay, after see the history and use this a reason for charging you, bearing in mind at this point they have your car with their new parts and a bill

I take your point Mike, too late however, just got the car back. A couple of things I will mention. It went in yesterday and since I was advised it would take 5 hours, I intended leaving it overnight. So, after about 5 hours or so, I got a call saying it was ready, the girl I spoke to asked me at this point when my last service was as they could find nothing in the car ( I don't keep my service book in there). I told her November 2013 at Halfords! She simply said thats fine (I know a lot on here would say. . .not fine ha ha :worms:)

When I picked it up today, the car had been cleaned inside and out and looked brand new. . . .what I didn't get (I didn't ask as I am not that pushy) was any documentation of work done. So, for all I know they could have just looked at it, cleaned the car , called me after 5 hours. . . . .then I think great I have a new part. I am simply ASSUMING it has been done and will make a note in my service book to say so. I don't know if others who had this done got a print out of the work carried out. . . . ? ?

thats the same response they give on timing chains as well. sometimes they will out of good will replace manifolds or in some cases agree to write off some of the bill to have it replaced at a dealers.. end of day a fair argument is, a exhaust manifold is life of car component and should be designed to last that long,,, so going by 7 years or 125.000 miles honda are saying their cars should only last this period then,,, this falls apart for them when their show rooms sell these cars as being bullet proof and good for 300.000 miles plus if serviced correctly. all you need is proof that a main dealer saying this as a sales pitch and you could then push honda with this fact,, either your cars last 127k and 7 years and this would be a major mess to honda to admit this, honda power of your dreams is their advertising stance,, hmmm power of your dreams but only for 125k or 7 years then.

I think it's pretty good they're even offering an extended warranty on the manifolds. A lot of other manufacturers wouldn't

thats true they also have a massive number of these manifolds all with same fault in the welds, ie were welded at a higher temperature so welds become brittal and crack it would seem or were cooled to quickly after welding, either way not fit for purpose or life of car.

Honda UK exhaust manifold replacement under warranty

Just had a call from my :honda: dealer, Phoenix Honda, Paisley, and Honda UK have agreed to supply AND fit a replacement manifold !

:elefant:

Feel like I've won the lottery !

Ftr, my car was first registered on 28/12/2006 by a Honda dealer and used as a demonstrator for seven months, before being sold to a company in July 2007. It has a full service history, although I was not asked to provide proof, first six were done by Gordons Honda, Bolton, following five by independents.

I bought the car from a private dealer in August 2012 with 94k on the clock and have recently clocked 120k.

Here's a copy of confirmation e-mail...

"Good Afternoon,

As per our conversation, I have booked you in for the exhaust manifold to be replaced on the 30th Jan at 8.30.

Honda (U.K) has confirmed that this repair will be done as goodwill and will cover the cost of this repair.

Also Kenny has agreed to replace the brake fluid that you will supply on the day, we will require the vehicle for at least 6hrs.

Big  to Honda UK !

great news !!!!!! Let me know if they give you a print out of work done / or not !
I will, in fact will ask for a receipt of the work and post it on here. ;)

Reckon it's saved me the best part of ÂŁ1k ! :D

This is very good support by Honda. The part should always have been built correctly in the first place of course, but even so, thank you Honda for backing up your product in this way. Many lesser companies do not.

Great news. They backed when my car was riddled with problems. Hence the reason why my next car will be a Honda and the one after that........
It is Mick, I'm well impressed with both :honda: Phoenix, Paisley and Honda UK.

Wasn't expecting them to foot the whole bill either, considering my car is beyond the extended warranty period. :D

Just goes to show, "If you don't ask, you don't get !"

Certainly does mate. They paid the 638quid bill for my EPS control module and diagnosis when my car was out of warranty because it had FHSH and I have a Honda history with cars.

Think there's a pattern developing here...

Seen quite a few threads where folk are asking, @ 4th or 5th service, whether it's worth staying with a :honda: dealer or going to an independent and saving ÂŁ50.

Well, for what basically equates to a ÂŁ1 a week, I'd strongly recommend staying with a Honda service. You never know what may go wrong with the car down the line, and Honda UK obviously support vehicles that have been maintained within their dealer network, even beyond warranty periods.
