Hey. That's my nearest dealer. I also think I have a dodgy manifold. Could you tell me exactly what you did to get them to fix it for free so I can just copy you?

At least I think it could be the manifold. I've got a 1.4 petrol 57 plate and it's blowing raspberries at me. Seen some fumes coming from under the car about 3 quarters along near the front.

Read the title of this thread...

Honda UK agreed to replace my exhaust manifold as well booked in next week. A friend of mine had his replaced yesterday and the manifold had a 1 cm crack in it. He said its running a lot smoother.

Pop the bonnet and on a cold start check for a puff or two of smoke at the back of the engine.

An injector leak should also be ruled out - whilst the engine is running, hold your hand over each injector, can you feel blow by? Black gunk around the base of an injector will confirm a broken seal.

Another tell tale sign of a broken exhaust is if you can smell fumes in the cabin.

Search for other threads on the topic e.g. http://www.civinfo.com/forum/engines-transmission/63927-2-2-exhaust-manifold-crack-pic-request.html

Honda has changed Exhaust Manifold. But how do I know it has been changed? I opened the Engine cover but can't see any new parts in there!
I can't feel any difference!

You're right, with the windscreen being over the back of the engine you will struggle to see any new part.

Even if you somehow manage to peer back there, the manifold is under a heat shield.

Is the engine quieter?

Any smell of fumes? - particularly on cold starts.

Has the tank to tank MPG improved?

To be honest I didn't smell fumes before. Absolutely no difference in performance and MPG. It was a minor leak probably that's why.

I have only driven 60 miles though!

Okay, good news then - at least its no worse!

I don't suppose the dealer showed you the state of the part they pulled off?

False alarm on possible cracked exhaust manifold

I recently serviced my 08 2.2 cdti Civic and used some what appeared to be good quality german filters. Not long after doing the service I detected what I thought was a small exhaust leak somewhere in the engine bay.
Then I checked on this forum & saw the threads/posts on the cracked manifold history on these engines/models.
I rang my local Honda agent [Benfield, Stockton on Tees] & they more or less confirmed that if it was a manifold crack it would be covered under an extended Honda warranty - but only for another 2 months as date of first regn. was 06/08.
So I booked it in for an inspection & agreed to be liable for a ÂŁ95 inspection charge.
At first they could not hear the noise which I found most noticeable when the engine was warm between 1500 - 2000 rpm. They then came back after 30 mins. and advised that they had replaced my aftermarket air filter with a Honda original - guess what noise cured!
I could have kicked myself for not thinking of this & hence this post to share this experience. Now I know the cause of this noise which was described as "induction ducting resonance" I might eventually use the "rogue" filter as apart from this slight noise aspect I am confident it will perform the required air cleaning function & protect the engine from any dirt ingress.

Bit of a thread revival ! Just got back from my local dealer after ringing Honda uk a couple of weeks ago , they told me to book it in for a visual check to see if it has a cracked manifold ( no fumes but audible blow on exhaust) . Dealer very stroppy cant see why doing a free inspection on a 56 plate car as no warranty, not a problem with civics only accord and CRV as no bulletin from honda ? Came back after an hour saying impossible to tell with out having the car for 2 days and stripping out at a charge of ÂŁ175 just to look ! But did want to fit me a NS sidelight at ÂŁ26.57 and a front shock gaiter at ÂŁ232.47 ( for a gaiter!) and a clutch fluid change at ÂŁ65. I think they did not even bother to try and look what do you think?
We had issues with them when the car was new over smashed fog lights and mirrors refusing to do warranty work but Id forgotten that of course the wife never forgets!
Rang Honda uk back and they are escalating it to head office so fingers crossed ?
Does a bulletin exist for the civic seen talk of a range of affected cars on here?

quick check of the Lings Honda site reveals exactly the same manifold , so how the hell an they put a bulletin out for one and not the other? I wonder if this has to do with either politics (made in Swindon), or more likely maths in the quantity that would need to be reworked under warranty?
