Hi, due to damage I need to replace the small storage flap just above the gear stick but have no idea how to remove it. Could anyone point me in the right direction of removing this cubby hole.

You'll have to open up half of the dash mate that includes taking the centre console out.

I tried this myself, but to troubleshoot another problem I had with the glovebox. Its time consuming (roughly 2 hours for me!) its fairly straight forward just be careful not to break any clips along the way!
